Thanks for your thoughtful comments Judith. Yes, I rather liked that lower left figure too, but took it out to allow full focus on the red umbrella figure. It's always difficult to know what to do with objects on edges of photos. |

Hi Karl....yes, the desaturated version does give more emphasis to the red umbrella. Thank you for your comments and suggestion!
No, losing gear is no fun.....happens in every corner of the globe, unfortunately. Am usually extremely aware, but this team was so slick and organised. We assumed they were hotel staff as they helped with our luggage when we arrived. A quick bag switch was done right at my feet as I signed in. |

I really enjoyed this image Susan and felt you made a great decision to use black and white. You have a good selection of grey tones there. I enjoy the juxtaposition of the sharpness and cut off of the mane against the fluid curves of movement. Lovely composition putting the focus on the horse, but keeping it interesting (and not just a horse pic) by including the rider coming into the scene. Just a little point; was there enough detail to bring in a little more of a connection of the rein to the rider? Again, it's a personal thing, but I was a bit concerned about the loss of connectivity there. Perhaps the rider was actually falling off....not really, but just a little point. Overall, a very enjoyable image! |

I didn't "get" this image when looking at it close up on my computer screen. It takes on a different aesthetic when viewed from a distance, becoming, to me, an interesting abstract, indeed ambiguous. I don't imagine the original image matters as the viewer cannot recognise a landscape as such. It is the colours, textures and the patterns which become prevalent. An unusual image Karl; quite unique! |

A nice image Marie. Great models! I was immediately drawn to their faces as they are both quite striking and wondered if you had tried any head/shoulder portraits against that lovely textured wall.
I also wondered about the title, as assuming Scarlet is the model on the left, an equally strong position in your composition is given to the other girl.
Another little point; there seems to be some texturing on the short haired model's hand and dress. Was that intentional?
Overall, a pleasing image of the two girls. |

I think you have possible achieved what you have set out to do Susan! The focus is certainly on the judge. My eye travelled around his face and I imagined, using the angle of his head and eyes, what he may have been dealing with. He looks a little world weary perhaps, and I wanted to see his eyes to gain more information as to his character. Perhaps this is why you have not provided much information here....I note you say "to allow us to further distance from his inner experience", but was not clear on that. |

Interesting image Judith. Amazing what you can find wherever you are! To be honest, I keep wanting to turn my head to see what you are looking at, so for me, it's slightly disorientating. However, I love the solid block silhouette, the colour in the background and, as with Marie, the texture and shape contrasts. I might have cloned out the stray hairs perhaps...and maybe the cords on your jacket. |
