What an interesting image Karl! Very dreamy...ethereal....the patterns almost like gossamer wings.......
An interesting technique....you must have had fun creating! I think you have done exactly what you set out to do, and very well. I really like this. |

This is fun Susan! Almost a Cartier-Bresson moment! I wish you'd grabbed him before he pedalled his front wheel out of the picture and a puff of smoke was perhaps wafting from his pipe. OK, so perhaps the smoke might have been too much to ask.
I feel he does need some space to move into though, as I look at him and my eye goes out of the picture.
You're correct, he does stand out and I feel our friend with the slicked back hair is very much part of the story as well. I think I might have been tempted to blur the rest or get rid of the other cyclist who is also cycling out of the image.
I love those two characters...great juxtaposition. The facade of the hotel gives a European feel and there is a lot of atmosphere and character in this little vignette. |

I do like the black and white, I think, although I see what you mean by the dream like quality of the colour version.
For me personally, I find the angle awkward though, and I also keep flitting to the white coming in at the top of your model's head. I understand you were aiming for quite a harsh transition, but wondered why. I think the large black space could possibly benefit from a slight hint of detail, but then I wonder if the white on the left is too harsh.....no, not so sure about this image...... |

I guess we live in a more sheltered part of the world and didn't get the connection until I read the description. Interesting isn't it.
Interesting that it really doesn't have to be a bullet hole either....just an abstract with the sharper lines of the shattered glass in contrast to the softer puffs of light. Quite nice balance in the composition. I think I would be tempted to clean up the very bright white areas and the two blue spots on the left there...and maybe some of the spots in the black....perhaps just a little distracting.
The more I look, the more it makes me think. |
