Hi Karl....yes, it is a fascinating image! I haven't had anything to do with IR or for that matter, tent caterpillars, so don't really feel qualified to make comment here. Initially I thought I only wanted to see the figures as my eye was wandering into the background, but then again, the complete image sets the scene and hints at a story. The overexposed areas bother me, I think, but perhaps this is deliberate?? So difficult; photography is so subjective! |

Mary....was just wondering if you could share the curves adjustment process here??? I would really enjoy knowing as well.

Yes, Karl, it is an old Citroen. Quite a landmark around here being always parked outside the Belfast Store where the owner sells artworks.
Judith, my camera settings were f/13 1/80 ISO100. I am using an EF24-70mm Canon lens f/2.8L 11 USM on a Canon EOS 5D Mark 111.
OCTA stands for Old Cromwell Town Art; the current name of the "Belfast Store".
Thanks for all your comments everyone. I think I can give the Citroen a bit more room and bring George Stumbles up a bit (although I am not sure that I want the viewer's eye wandering over there as he's not the subject). I can still retain the square format by filling a little at the top and bottom. Perhaps Mary's idea of providing less information, would do the trick. |

Eek....I cropped a white background off this image and haven't gone far enough so you are seeing the white. Looks terrible! Thanks Susan...should have checked before I sent!!
Yes, I have to agree, the square format was restricting and a landscape format probably a much better choice. It would have given the car more space. |

The blue and yellow work nicely together Anurada. It looks like you've had a bit of fun making this image whilst soaking up the changing of day to evening. The joy of photography! I agree with Susan; it is a very moody shot...lots of mystery here.
I'm wondering if you needed to have the vegetation in the foreground as to me, it's a very abstract piece; an art work. The sticks bring me back to reality when I want my imagination to wander and get lost in the moodiness of the colours and shapes. |

A lovely image of your Mum, Susan. She looks a little mischievous here! What a delightful portrait.
On the technical side, it may be my screen again, but the eyes look a little soft and lacking in detail. If you want the far eye out of focus, that's fine, but the eye nearest should be sharp. This is a good rule of thumb and goes for wildlife photography as well. There are some overexposed areas on the face and in the hair where you have lost detail. Be aware of those as the eye of the viewer will keep returning to these brighter spots.
For something a little different, I'm wondering if a horizontal crop might work as I find myself returning to look at the lovely pattern of colours on your Mum's apron. You could then try a very light vignette. Just a couple of thoughts. |

Yes, a lovely image Judith. Nicely seen and well composed. Can't remember what these heads are called, but they're a lot of fun to photograph and you've come up with something rather delightful.
My suggestions to improve the image would be to clone out the the stem in the right hand corner as it's a little distracting. I'm even wondering if the top corner stem is necessary. It might be interesting to see what it's like without it. There seems to be some artifacting on the stem which has possibly occurred during post production. Other things to watch are the background whites blowing out although this can be done deliberately for effect. Finally, the middle of the head where my eye is drawn because of the leading line of the stem, lacks detail (maybe try using curves adjustment layer to see what you can bring out) and is perhaps a little soft in the focus department. Just bits and pieces of housekeeping. |

Hi Mary...love your image! The expression on your model's face so perfectly fits with your concept. Not sure if my screen is showing everything as most of the surround is black and I really want to see more detail in those shoes!
Beautifully posed; a lovely composition. The image is sharp in all the right places and there is a great range of grey tones...maybe a tiny white speck on the end of the nose and near the eye, but that's nit picking really. I think it's an image you can be very proud of. |
