Leah,
So many ways your raw photo could have gone when you were rendering for this month's DDG. I feel that your rendering above is done and good to go

My feeling is that a photograph that evokes a lot of comment/suggestions is well seen by the shooter.
I like Israel's idea to go with the dark background, the focus is clearly on your loving subject.
I also like your idea of a studio shoot.

Romaine is not just for salad in your house...
I applaud you for opening new doors due to the lack of closeby photo subjects.
This is so well done, the texture is amazing.
Keep going with still life, I think you will make them look great.

This is a very clever composition. The dark ruins, the view through the entrance into the mid-ground and the light spilling onto the stonework, the clouds are all top notch.
I would remove the stone object on the right that is between the ruins and the archway in the distance since it is only a partial image.
FYI: if you go to this spot again, position yourself so the archway in the distance is more centered.
Well done

Both raw shots are very nice. The composite is well executed but my eye is bothered by the perspective of the gull, which you took looking up, flying along the shoreline where you were looking at the horizon. I would say your eye sees the gull as flying upward. If you can create a composite where both scenes are the results of looking skyward my eyes will be happier.

We are all looking at images that were in limbo on in our photo catalogs. It is good thing looking for gems that were below shallow ground
I am on the same page as Jack regarding sailboat positioning and the sky all fixable. The foreground and mid-ground are very strong and to me overwhelm the background.

I love the shot.
I am with Arik in that there is so much in the foreground to enhance that my crop was at the top. There are features both water and ground that lead you into your shot.
See what you think...

Love your shot, nice balance by the trees, shadows, my eye runs down the center of your scene and into the background
I share Gary's thoughts on foreground crop, it is fixable. I do not have a problem with large tombstone. especially if you remove the three small ones as Melanie suggests. As far a black point choice - what about the top of the wall on the right side?
I think a little more works in the digital darkroom and this image is good to go

Top marks to you
The thing I notice that you did so very well is the space between the building and the bush/tree on the right. Careful eye composing your shot...
Having foliage as part of the building facade is well thought out feature and of course adds contrast in IR

Simply gorgeous IR landscape
Love the red building. Good photos have a place the eye rests or returns to and this is one in my mind. Gary's comment about painting the side wall will only lift the shot more.
The foreground details of the tall grass in the shadows is off the charts, it adds so much to visual impact.
Well done

Melanie,
Such a great scene IR and I can imagine the color in the fall. The contrast, the arched footbridge bridge, and the reflections are simply exquisite.
I have nit for you to consider, my eye is telling me the white building is not quite vertical. A LR transforming in auto will make a slight adjustment to make image perfection.
Well done
