78 Jun 22 Comment Hi Helen, I started writing something and now a week went by. Oh my. I was just going to say that I agree with the others that the back window in the subjects frame is a little distracting, but I do like the view through the train in the other window because it shows that there are people standing out there with luggage which lets us see he is at a station vs in transit.

I also kind of like the orange of the other window that you cropped out and would see if you could work that in there. I did a quick attempt and I see one issue is it puts the subject's window more centered which is perhaps not so desirable, though you do get some nice diagonals / triangles which intersect at the Yankee's logo on his hat and frame his body quite well.

I had to rotate the image as well so would need to do some "Content Aware Fill" magic to make up for the empty space.

78 Jun 22 Reply Thanks Terry. I think the straightened background is an improvement. I'm not a big fan of selective color but could go for something a little in between my bright saturated bg and your mono one. Jun 15th
78 Jun 22 Reply Thanks Brenda. I really like the environment of the bar and was hoping to catch some of that in my background along with the bartender.

It was not a very large space and I had a 100-400 (full frame equiv) lens on which is part of the "intimate" feel!

As I wrote to Mitch, I have historically been shy to ask people about taking their photo but am now working up to doing it more. In this case it was a quick ask and snap, but perhaps next time will try to get a few photos and chat a bit before walking off.

78 Jun 22 Reply Thanks Mitch. He is a barkeep in a pub, but his shirt mentions a brewery hence my title. But see now it is in Dutch and not so obvious without other environmental clues :)

I think that blue card is some sort of certificate for the bar's operation but agree about toning it down.

I only got one quick photo with a slightly shy, "can I take your portrait" (which is better than when I used to think about it but not ask). Next time when doing a spontaneous portrait like this, I'll aim to take a few pics vs just one.

78 Jun 22 Comment This is an excellent pose of this bird. I like the way his feet are out in front for the landing.

The color looks al little purple to me vs pink. Not sure how it looked in real life.

Building on Terry's thoughts on the eye, are you able to pull any more brightness from your RAW photo? I would like to see a little red or more detail.

The reeds are OK for me as is, especially if you are entering for Nature.

78 Jun 22 Reply I find that changing the colors / LUT can make a big difference for some images but on some it either doesn't do much or detracts. It can be quite a transformation when you find the right combo. I have not delved into it too much other than using the Adobe presets and honestly don't remember to even try most the time except when making a conscious effort to do something a little different. 78 Jun 22 Comment This is some really impressive architecture and you've done a great job presenting it from this vantage point.

I find myself drawn to little details, like the way the windows are lit up on the left, mirrored, but dark on the right. I like Mitch's idea to brighten up that 2nd stained glass top window.

To me this is one of those images that makes an excellent backdrop but would be even better if you had one more point of interest like a person standing on the stairs to give some scale and add a little narrative into the photo.

78 Jun 22 Comment Happy Anniversary Sunil. This is a beautiful view and image of you both. The sky is perfect with an excellent sun ray, but I also find the people and dog to be a little dark. I think Terry's suggested edit is an improvement. Jun 10th
78 Jun 22 Comment Your experiments are always enjoyable for me to see the creative possibilities of working with a model and a unique idea.

I did the old flip and feel like it works in this case for whatever reason I am not sure. Maybe "reading" the image from left to right and her grenade arm leads us to her body and up through the other arm to the opposite diagonal of the frame. Though could say the same in your version that her upper arm leads us in to her body and out so I dunno :)

I also tried cropping to square to remove the bottom forest which I don't think is adding much to this image.

I darkened the trees a little and also darkened a little line of light on her calf of her left leg (the one on top) as it was distracting to me like an extraneous outline.

Last thing, since I was playing with the "Color Lookup" adjustment layer for Mitch's image. I tried some different LUTs and settled on "Crisp Winter" to cool it a bit and make the reds more prominent on the green background.

And as a final aside, my wife came in and saw my version and said she thinks the bottom part in your version is better as it adds a sense of height that is missing in my crop.

78 Jun 22 Comment I'd say you and the R5 nailed the focus. Fantastic catch of this little guy in flight.

It seems a little muted to me or a lack of "pop" factor that could be improved in various ways. I tried some different color lookup tables using Photoshop and the "Color Lookup" filter.

First I tried using a default 3D LUT file called filmstock_50 which keeps the core colors but adds some extra contrast and detail (see example photo). I also liked "crisp_winter" for a different look.
