78 Apr 22 Comment Like Terry said, this almost looks like a mouth to me. Kind of creepy but very cool!

I like the contrast of red and green between flower and bug, but would almost tone down the red just a little and maybe saturate the green some so the bug pops more than the background. (didn't actually try this so not sure if will have the intended effect)

78 Apr 22 Reply I think this updated version works, and sounds like you had some good reasons for making the editing choices you made. Apr 15th

As for the pink object mystery, see my response below.

78 Apr 22 Comment This is a wider view of the scene to see the pink background. It is a crystal that hangs from the bottom of a wind chime.

What I find quite amazing is how it is fairly narrow and not that close to the fence, but from the right focal length and angle it becomes much more prominent in the composition.

I also got a photo with the head framed in pink which I posted on my website :

78 Apr 22 Comment This is a really beautiful moment you have caught Brenda. I like the circular shape of the two egrets.

I think you could go a little brighter without blowing out the highlights, but otherwise, I don't have much to add technically.

Not sure what works best in nature PSA, but perhaps you might consider an alternate title which adds a more emotional connection to the image. Something like: "The Offering" or "Building Together" or "Branch by Branch"... something like that

78 Apr 22 Reply This one does render nicely in mono (and color great as well). Sunil, hope you enjoy the new lens. There is something special about watching nature up close. Plus, getting an amazing photo of some unique behavior or pose of an animal is all the better.

That reminds me, I was talking to a seasoned wildlife photographer about how I like to integrate symbolism and meaning into my photography practice. He said something like, "I hear about that stuff, but I just photograph nature". The funny thing is, nature is FULL of symbolism and meaning. Just consider the energy of animals; a bear vs a deer for example.

When I go out to photograph nature, I like to make a note of which animals choose to appear for my lens that day, then think about the energy of that animal and why it crossed my path at that time.

78 Apr 22 Comment When I first saw the thumbnail I thought this was taken in front of the "Dream Garden" mural in Philadelphia. You can find a photo from there on my website for a visual:

I agree with the previous comments about removing the standing figure. I think I would even consider centering the bench if that is your only subject. And, despite my usual tendency to flip things horizontally, you might consider keeping the people in their original position as well.

I am not crazy about the way the people and grass are the same orangey tone as the sky. This seems unnatural to me and kind of "muddies" the overall image. Maybe you can give them a little of an orange cast but toned down slightly.

78 Apr 22 Comment When you say you needed a mono, was that to enter for a salon? (I know I am constantly clueless on the PSA rating process but still have not quite figured it all out)

The wide angle / fisheye view adds good interest, and this building is a perfect subject for this kind of image. Did you happen to make another version from this scene where you are closer to the building?

I feel like you could have cropped out about half or more of the foreground / street and still gotten the same effect - and maybe even had a little more room on top for the sky.

78 Apr 22 Comment I agree with Helen that something gets lost in the mono. It feels too uniform in tone, or too much texture to distinguish the boat from the weeds. Maybe with some creative dodging / burning to accent the boat and make the subject clearer?

I also like the lily pads in the original which add some context that we are looking at a pond or river vs perhaps a little puddle next to the weeds.

78 Apr 22 Comment That is funny the way the boy is getting his little brother (sister?) to smile. I agree with Sunil on the B&W about bringing the background down.

Though I do also like the vibrance of the original version and would consider making a version in color as well.

This is a quick edit but was thinking to cut out the kids and put on a top layer, then darken, desaturate, and blur the background behind them.

Your edit feels a little cramped to me on the top and right side. The woman walking by does make it hard to add some more on the right so I cloned her out using "Content Aware Fill" (again just a quick version could do better with some more detailed editing).

After all that, the white of the buggy on the left side was still way too bright so I made an -2 stop exposure layer (in PS) and masked it with a gradient so it only darkens the top left of the frame.

Yeah they look a little weird floating on top of the background but this was my quick version. You could probably mess with the blur vs cutout and get something better.

78 Apr 22 Reply Thanks Helen for your suggested edits. I've actually never used Topaz products before but often hear about people using them in this group, on Aminus3, and elsewhere.

As for the pink sweater, that is a very good theory but alas not correct.

78 Apr 22 Reply Thanks Sunil for the suggestion and on the pink, it's not a flower. Apr 3rd
