This is a beautiful skyline and perfectly captured. Good on you for going the "opposite" way that most people get the shot. I think this is an equally impressive of the city.
I really like the accents of blue in the tennis courts and crescent shape in the building - though as Richard pointed out, there is something a little distracting in that bottom left corner, maybe the bright star lights on the courts (vs the blue itself).
It is also an interesting contrast this month to see the modern city of Doha in comparison to Richard's shot of Pyongyang which is also very colorful but invokes an older blocky aesthetic compared to the futuristic lines and colors of these buildings. |

Congrats on your run Richard and thanks for sharing your travels to this part of the world that seems hidden for many. I imagine as with anything, the truth of being in a place is different from what we hear in the news.
I really like the view and shapes of these colorful buildings. I would almost consider creating a crop of just the buildings for a different kind of image (less documenting the place and more of an abstract kind of thing). |

Good question Brenda. I think the crop is not a bad idea, as there is a bit of extra space out there and that single flower doesn't quite anchor it.
Here's something similar to Richard's 2nd suggestion. More of a 5:4 format.
Have fun with those dreamy pics!
btw, here's a fun one from the same day where my dog got in the shot but kind of blends into the bokeh in an interesting way :

Thanks Richard.
I was debating on cropping out some of that right side but didn't do it initially for some reason (which I don't recall now !)
I think I prefer your second crop but will have a play as well and see what makes sense. |

Hi Terry, welcome to the group! Great to have you with us.
Perfect timing for this bright bus to come along in your frame. It definitely adds interest to the image.
I would maybe consider cropping off some of that bottom as the first cement block is a little out of sync with the others and I think you can get the same effect with a little less foreground. |

Very interesting cultural shot Sunil. Looks like you made the best of the shot despite the people and other challenges.
I like the way the lines and texture are emphasized in your B&W conversion. Each horizontal section of the photo is like a different layer bridged together by the plant stand and plants.
One suggestion is a somewhat tighter crop unless you are conveying the spaciousness of this place in which case the empty areas serve that purpose. |

Good thinking to play around with B&W in this setting. There seems to be a lot of contrasting elements that would be further enhanced in B&W.
I agree with Brenda that moving to the left may have been a good choice vs. going through the fence. Though perhaps also zooming out more to get the fence and house + mountain sky could have worked as well.
Looks like you had some nice puffy clouds to work with. I like these type of skies for a moody B&W image - especially with the mountains and stone house. Maybe going with a wider angle as well where the sky takes an equal or larger part of the frame could have worked too. |

Wow! What a flowing, musical, lyrical image. Looks like a promotional photo for a symphony. The words almost look like they are spelling something out.
Beautiful image Brenda. I don't really have much for a critique on this one. Looks great to me.

Thanks Alan for your comment and suggestion. Due to the focus distance of the lens (not a macro lens) I couldn't get much closer in this case may have been able to get in a little tighter. |

Thanks Brenda. This was taken on a mirrorless camera / sensor so 200mm is more like 400mm on a full frame. I love this early spring green around here, everything looks supernatural for a week or so.
I decided to leave that bottom flower in on purpose (cloning out one or two others on the right of the frame). Though I'm not 100% on this composition / crop.
Any other composition ideas are welcome. |
