78 Jan 19 Comment Thanks Richard for the encouraging comments and added suggestions.

Glad to hear the "sunshine" has been well received!

Although, I had not considered the sunshine theme in my PSA submissions, or thought much about a "signature Jason" image. It's a good reminder to consider our own styles and approach even when gleaning helpful feedback from our peers!

I have not played much with AI filters (is that from Luminar?) but will check it out.

78 Jan 19 Reply I think this is getting closer and would go a bit darker on the sky even to contrast the lights in the water. Jan 9th
78 Jan 19 Reply Thanks Dave for stopping by and for your comment.

You also reminded me to have a look at some of the other groups and discussions out there.

I agree that this group has been very helpful in providing new perspectives, suggestions and techniques for improving our photography.

I like your crop which is also similar to the photo I posted on my website (link at top) - though the sky was a bit different in that one.

78 Jan 19 Reply Thanks Sunil for checking out my blog.

I also appreciate the different cropping ideas. I agree with Brenda that I think my favorite is the road on it's own. Though each one is a good composition on it's own.

78 Jan 19 Reply I agree this one is an excellent crop. Jan 6th
78 Jan 19 Comment This another epic city shot and I think the B&W gives us a different perspective or feeling about the city.

There is also a lot of hidden detail emerging that I didn't see at first glance. Like the face in the bottom of the center building. I wonder if you could do some editing to bring that out even more or perhaps it is good as is as a subtle element.

I find the building on the right to be somehow distracting - perhaps because it is more dark than light and takes up a good amount of space in the frame without (in my view) adding too much to the overall image. Maybe cropping that tighter would minimize that, and also pull the other building out of center (as recommended by Brenda -- though I see your reply to her in that you prefer it that way).

78 Jan 19 Reply Brenda, I found these instructions which should let you do in camera multi-exposure on the 7D mkii https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART116410 Jan 4th
78 Jan 19 Comment What a fantastic sharp capture of this nature scene. I also enjoyed reading the story about your neighborhood heron. Sad indeed to hear she didn't make it through the cold winter.

Your editing is spot on as well and brings us right into the action.

I probably would have been tempted to try to incorporate the reflection a little more, maybe even crop to portrait. Though it maybe loses some of the impact of fish in the beak, and more stuff to clean up from the reeds.

78 Jan 19 Comment I think the original photo is well done in terms of your composition, and the longer exposure which starts to blur out the water and brings out those lights and reflections. I wonder what effect an even longer exposure (15-30 seconds) may have had.

Not sure what other shots you took here, but if you were to do it again, I think there is a lot of interesting stuff with the purple lights under the bridge and the lights of the city on the left. Would be interesting maybe to go tighter in on those (in camera if you shot it again vs. cropping this one).

In terms of the texture. I prefer your second version as well (in response to Dave). I think this better compliments the scene, and brings more attention to the reflections in the water which are a very nice element of the image.

I like the richer blue sky of the original. Is it possible to keep the texture / edit of your version 2 but retain more of that deeper blue sky?

78 Jan 19 Reply Thanks Brenda. The main page of my blog is https://jason.aminus3.com. There is not any index or list of posts other than clicking on the left side of the image to go back in time day by day. Let me know if that format still seems odd (as the creator of the greater website / layout as well, I'm always interested in user experience).

Good suggestion on cropping more of the top sky. Will try that along with any other suggestions from the others.

I've also noticed this trend of super high saturation images. I think this is in part due to HDR processing which gives that surreal painted saturated look which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

There is a fantastic landscape photographer in the Aminus3 community named Don Smith who uses a lot of those saturated colors but his compositions and scenes lend themselves perfectly to the effect. For some inspiration, check out his blog here : https://donsmithphotography.aminus3.com

Personally speaking, I like to experiment with different styles but tend to keep things more natural or understated in most cases.

78 Jan 19 Comment Excellent that you were able to get this Monk alone in the frame in his beautiful surroundings. The old trees and steps give a timeless feel.

I think his expression and hand position also add to the serenity of this place and theme.

I like the crop in terms of bringing us right into the scene. I agree with Brenda that the subject is a little too centered though he is just outside that right third. Maybe cropping him just a little more to the right would suffice.

<note I originally posted a different crop suggestion but then realized my figure was nearly in the same place as yours :) so not too helpful>

78 Jan 19 Comment Looks like a tranquil place to enjoy until you are able to play again.

It is interesting to see your Las Vegas photo compared with Richards for this month. Quite a contrast to his busy lights and signs.

My only critique of this image is that to me, while it does a nice job showing the big picture of this place, there is not a clear subject of the image.

It looks like you have some nice elements to explore here like the front trees and shadows, the line of trees and pathway, and those scenic mountains in the distance.

If you are able to go back and experiment, it might be worthwhile to take some more detailed images which feature a different view of some of those perspectives.

Hope you are healing well Alan.

78 Jan 19 Comment Cool idea Richard and a great way to capture the information overload of Las Vegas. This is one of those images that seems to reveal new things on each viewing.

I have done a few in camera multi-exposures and it is a technique I'd like to experiment with more. So far I've only tried 2-3 layers and had not though of going up as high as 9.

One suggestion is maybe to experiment with different focal lengths to add some variety vs. layers of the same text / subjects at same focal length.
