Thanks Andrew, I did actually do a set of focus bracketing on this image but the merge came out kinda wonky. There were some blurred areas on the up cap. Not sure what happened, so I didn't use that set. For sure, like you say, it would given me the whole scene if focus. |

Thanks Cindy, I was aware that the caps were to much floating in space, and the blue was ify but good point about being overpowering. |

Perfect ornament for Graceland. The Pixel did a good job capturing the detail in the guitar. Maybe a tighter crop might help keep the viewers eye on the guitar; that top red light, I think, doesn't add to the composition, although I do like those vertical streaks. It looks like you did some work on that green light next to the guitar. It's still a bit bright and distracting; not sure what else can been done. Maybe in PS, use a fill adjustment to add in a little more green to replace some of that blown out white. |

Nice grouping of fungi. The lighting and color look good coming from a iPhone. They are so convenient for grab shots like this. The problem I have with my iPhone, is that it always wants to shoot at a large aperture, like 2.2. If that happened in this case, it's probably the cause of the softness; which also limits your ability to crop to much without losing more detail. I'm trying to remember about Snapseed; it doesn't have it's own camera, right. Just uses the image that the Apple camera takes? You may try using one of the third party camera apps that allows you to shoot RAW images and adjustments to your aperture, giving you more creative control.
Possibly rotating the image to a horizontal format, with the large fungi on the bottom might make an alternative comp. |

Nice subject matter; mechanical items with shapes, contours, etc. are sun to shoot. I like Cindy's monochrome idea. I also like the lighting in the center pulley, which I think shows itself better in monochrome. Since you were shooting a static object and on a tripod, so no camera shake worries, I may have experimented with several other f stops. Since you mention you set the camera on Macro mode, I guess that means the camera selected your aperture? Not familiar with the G5. But I think those splines on the back side are interesting and can add to your composition if they were more in focus. Wouldn't want a setting that would bring your background into sharpness. Maybe f4.5 or 5.6, just a little more depth....... |

For sure, wonderful capture; nice depth of field on this little critter. Impressed you were able to capture him while on your tripod. Agree with the others that cropping off the top area would be helpful. I can see a circular hard edge from an edit, about an inch above the dragonfly that would benefit from softening. Just a nit-pick, use a content-aware tool to remove those small white specs on that lower leaf |

Great image, Cindy. Sharp, nice detail and color and the composition is reinforced with the triangular shape extending out to the right. Neat idea with the silver painted jar. The only thing I might experiment with, esp. if this image was printed, is to give a slight boost to the reds in the middle of each bloom. |

Hi guys, enjoying your conversation, thought I add in my experience with Adaptalux. I was intrigued by the concept, so I bought one Pod and 2 white light arms. When the Pod arrived, it did not work correctly (no variation in light), had to send it back to England, at my expense. Then, when removing one of the lighting arms from the Pod, the magnetic head separated from the rest of the arm. Had to get it replaced, took 6 weeks. So I'm using the system but am a little concerned about their Quality Control. Will be interested to see how your new flash arms work. |

Hi Carol, just visiting from Group 57. Always like your flower images, and I like what you have done to eliminate the distracting background. Don't you just hate that wind, always comes up when shooting macro, haha. As an alternative, you might try brushing out some of the texture on that top petal. Looks like there is some detail there that would be nice to see. |
