Thanks Marcela, In fact I did clip off a stem to use in my basement "studio", folks here putting on a new roof, loud noise and too many distractions. I also thought about showing the pods while they were green. I have several shots of them in that condition but the background is so distracting I didn't think they were post worthy. |

Thanks Jessica, I'm going to work on this image and erase that bottom stem completely, and see how it looks. It will involve a lot of cloning which concerns me about having to much area to blend. Will try to post before this months page shuts down. |

Interesting composition. You lit it well, seeing that the tones were all very close to each other. Such a well preserved specimen. The brightness of the surrounding rock is distracting, so I agee with Cindy that a soft vignette would keep attention on the fish. And maybe even crop more off the top and bottom. I fiddled with it a little; cropped, boasted the orange a little to help separate the fish from the background. Is it too much fiddling? |

Never thought about what snails eat, either. As Cindy mention, the snail has such clarity and detail. That spiral shell, I think, is a major point of interest. The white tip on the bottom of the image is distracting. Maybe you could crop in tighter to eliminate that tip, and brighten up the shadows on the snails underside and mouth area. |

Wonderful composition. I would have never guessed it was a saw blade on the left side. But as Cindy says, you don't need to know that to enjoy the image. I like the color and texture you came up with for the final image. The only thing you might try, it would change the comp, but maybe play around with the wood piece in the center. Adjust the tone/color a little to make it different from the rest of the wall. Might add additional visual interest. |

I agree, nice shot. Good work with the flashes. You inspire me to do more flash work/setups. I have two Nissian, flashes but one got dropped... oops. The only thing I might suggest is to brighten up that shadow area going down the middle of the ball. By the way, how do you like Capture One 20? I have version 12 but have not made the jump to that new version. |

Nice capture, Cindy. It's such great photo opportunity when the fern goes through this process. As Mary mentioned, the diagonal line of the stem makes for a great leading line to the . I like your exposure on the leaves, there's enough light/dark to keep interest for the viewer. You could probably crop in more, to make the more the center of interest. |

You capture him well. He is sharp and the texture on his back really has nice detail. I agree that cropping out as much of the rocks as you can would help the final composition. It is difficult to sneak up on these guys, esp. with a 60mm macro lens which I imagine required you to get pretty close. |

Thanks Cindy. I was torn between shooting the pods while they were green, or after they dried and turned black but were still on the plant. I have images of both, but the black pods with the white hairs, etc. really stood out from the background. I agree, the stem is still distracting. There was a small, dried out leaf on that tip which I cloned out but that whole stem should go for sure. |

Hi Mary, thanks for the input. I'm still experimenting with focus stacking. I could have got the 2nd pod in focus if I would have taken more images to add to the stack but I was losing my light. From what I've read and seen from others that do a lot of stacking is you must consistent light for all the images in the stack or it might cause weird artifacts to form during the merging process. |

Hi Lorna, visiting from Group 57. Very nice image, I like the color, you have a good eye for capturing composition. It would have been easy in group like to get lost and distracted with many flowers. That said, Richards point is solid and his crop along with your selective focus make for a stronger image. I think the fact that all the petals are downward facing, exposing the dark center to more light and giving you that opportunity to get it tack sharp and make it your center of interest. |

Hi Neal, visiting from Group 57. Nice image, well done on the stacking. As others have mentioned, nice colors and background. I appreciate the work you have done on focus stacking, esp. with 60+ images which I have to found to be tricky using a manual rail. I like the symmetry of the antenna and legs which I think helps create a strong composition and keeps the viewer focused on the center of the image. |

Hi Richard, visiting from Group 57. Luv ferns when they unfurl like this. Nice image and composition, esp when carrying that heavy zoom lens. I like the diagonal leaves starting at the bottom and pointing up to the center of interest, and the angle of the main stem adds to this as well, all makes for a strong composition. The only thing that I might add is toning down that bright spot at the top of the image. Well done. |

Nice capture Lou, I can appreciate the difficulty of trying to capture these guys as they move around the garden I like how the wasp curved body is in concern to the roundness of the flowers center. Richards point is well taken; if this guy was not moving to much, you could have gotten away with a slower shutter speed. After doing a lot of reading and viewing of others work, I'm try to use a flash on a bracket for outside shots like this. It's been awkward for dealing with that extra weight but it does help with freezing motion (using high speed sync) and filling in the dark shadows. Are you still working with ON1 software? |
