Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
46 Mar 20 Comment Hi Paul: Just visiting from Group 60. I like to do HDR as well so I'm always interested in folks are doing. I like this image; the downward perspective into the water is unusual and captures ones attention. This arch reminds me a lot of Arch Rock on Mackinac Island.
Happy shooting !

60 Mar 20 Comment Hi Jennifer, late to the party this month. Welcome to the group. I like your image and agree the vertical crop is the way to go. DOF plagues us all, esp when we are so close. I agree with Denise that you could get a little more of your bug at f11 or f14. I wouldn't go higher than that if what the pundits say is true; that with APS-C sensors, you start seeing diffraction after f14. Maybe a light vignette might help reduce the bright background and keep the viewers attention on the critter and flower. Happy shooting as Spring approaches. Mar 12th
60 Mar 20 Reply Thanks again Denise. Yeah, I'm liken the monchrome a lot too. Really helps the eye stay focused on the edges and details. Mar 12th
60 Mar 20 Reply Thanks Denise. I did try getting closer but that sappy shine kind of covers up the small detail I do like the idea of converting to Monochrome; gave it a try (also cropped in a little higher) and attached the file below. The blotchy color spots where not on my computer originally; the color were more even and not so contrasty. Maybe the conversion to jpeg didn't help those spots. Mar 10th
60 Mar 20 Comment Beautiful image Denise. Never seen one of these flowers before (that I can remember) and as you say, has a really interesting texture and appealing repetitive form. I like the pink vignette, great idea works better than a standard dark edging would provide. You accomplished your concept of that soft pillow look. I see what Lou is talking about, maybe increasing the brightness/brilliance, maybe just adding it to the midtones only. Maybe a good test for NIK Viveza. Mar 3rd
60 Mar 20 Comment Beautiful capture Lou. Nice color and I think the center placement and tight work well for this image. You got good depth of field for this considering the 50mm focus length. Maybe boosting the shadow/dark area right at the bottom of the 'cup' might give more separation from the dark background underneath it. Mar 3rd
60 Mar 20 Comment Interesting shot Carol, I can just imagine the contorted position you must have been in. The moving water and the straight up position of the crab kind of give this a surrealistic look. If only that eye was a little sharper but I realize what a fleeting moment this was. And maybe tone down the luminosity of the greenish rock on the left, kind of pulls my eye away from your critter. Mar 3rd
60 Mar 20 Reply Thanks Lou. I wanted to leave some 'negative space' in the shot but it's always a question in my mind about how much. Mar 3rd

95 Mar 20 Reply For sure decisions, esp. when stacking that many images. Maybe there was some focus breathing that could reduced room at the top. Mar 10th
95 Mar 20 Reply Thanks for your detail feedback. It's always good to hear from an actual user. I was wondering about those white diffusers, didn't seem there would be that much difference. Interesting to hear your experience on the power on the lights as applied to Close-up verses Macro. Not surprised about their instructions, in my years working in labs, the engineers can design and build the bridges but can't write the instructions <;-). Heard about one photog that was using the UV lites with acrylic ink dropped into water, then taking long exposures of the flow. Abstract but cool. Always in search of more/better lights. The platypod people now sell flex arms that can be added to their platform and be used with the new LumaCube 2. Mmmm More stuff to check out. Happy Shooting! Mar 5th
95 Mar 20 Comment Hey Bill
Nice capture, I always find birch/aspen to be great subject matter. With the addition of the snow really adds interest to the shot. The only thing I might suggest is a little burning/dodging to bring out the edges of the bark and add more depth.

95 Mar 20 Comment Another great focus-stack Tom. The detail is amazing and I applaud to technique enabling great results while handling 95 images. The color is good and the off-center placement is perfect but maybe a little more head room at the top, I'm undecided about the petal framing on the left side. Mmmm, maybe a little darker. How would this framing look when printed, mmmm again. BTW good job on exposing the Pistil, it's so easy to burn that area out. Mar 3rd
95 Mar 20 Comment Hi Stuart - just visiting from Group 60. Really like your composition and your post-processing works really well. How do you like your Adaptalux lights? I have a basic starter kit on backorder, apparently they are so popular they ran out.
Happy shooting !!
