Very nice Denise - you are the flower Queen. I like that you got in close on this shot, not often done with tulips. I like that the reds totally frame the central image. I see what folks are saying about the blues, don't know if there is enough data available to lighten but since you were on a tripod and using continuous lights, maybe HDR (I know, I'm broken record this month on that) could lighten up those deep shadows. Barring that, if the blues are distracting turn them black and the viewer will never know there was color there. The overall image is very pleasing to me; I know there is that age-old issue of sharpness but most non-photographers would not notice. That's why we see shots like on calendars and billboards. At f16 don't think you could get much more DoF without boasting the diffraction. |

Nice capture Lou; good detail and I too am amazed you got the shot hand held - well done. My Dad was a coin collector and he was always on the look out for quality Indian heads. I know its too late now but as an after thought to address the hot spot issues for the next time you have a shiny image like this you might try HDR. Taking say 5 images - over/under might balance out the over exposures. |

Very nice Doug; excellent work on the 41 images. Luv the lines and textures, that only the maxed out DOF could show. As Carol noted, good balance in your highlight and shadows. Almost looks 3-D. |

The vertical crop is perfect for the subject matter. The V / triangle created by the two stems really help pull in the viewers eye. Great composition. I agree that the vignette is too dark. distracts from the main subject. The soft background is nice; plays down what otherwise would be a busy background. |

I luv birch trees/bark (Aspen as well). I like how you captured the wrinkly, horizontal lines on the main trunk, as well as the textures. Enough said on pulling back, since we are a closeup group. I struggle all the time with capturing the birch the way my eyes see it. DOF is always an issue; Doug makes a good point about the image stabilization. I'd be lost without it because I no longer have a steady hand. That said, I always bring the tripod out when I'm shooting bark, etc. <;-) Saves me disappointment. That squiggly piece of bark on the lower left might make an interesting subject all on its own. This might make a good B&W?? |
