I think you capture the mood perfectly, and monochrome works for that effect. It's a soft image but can still see detail in the petal, very nice. The only thing I might say is maybe a little more white on that center section... what is it, the stamin (I can never kept that flower parts straight). That might provide the landing point for the eye as it travels up the petal. Nice work for a hand-held image. I gave a shot at boasting the white level in that area; see below. But as I mentioned earlier, it might be my monitor that not picking all the subtle transition between gray and white. |

I agree, Jennifer, the Tiger Lilly is a fantastic flower and you captured it well. Capturing it before it's at 100% open I think addd a sense of mystery and anticipation. I like you your treatment; the blurred background and increased blacks. But I'm wondering if maybe a bump up in the luman/brilliance/brightness of the oranges channel may help bring out more tonal separation between the orange and the black dots. I took a swing at brightening just the orange in below image; don't know. It's subtle; might be my monitor, I think I might try a monitor calibration to see if I'm getting dark grays and blacks where they are suppose to be.
I like the image, well done. Makes me hopeful for Spring. We just had a late snow here 2 days ago, and everything looks like winter again. |

Nice capture, Bill. Good eye. At first I thought it was peeling paint. You really caught the subtle depth and textures of the peeling bark, the shadows are perfect for showing that depth. The triangular shapes really help pull in the viewer and I like the vertical format; don't know if that your intent but it works. |

Nice image; I like that you showed the bud before it opens. Nice shape, like a tulip. The colors look great, nice contrast between the reds and yellows which blend nicely the the textured background. The bud is light really well, that diffuser worked; not hot spots. The vertical format really works well here as well, and goes well with the bud coming in from the top. I'm impressed that it only took three blended images in Helicon to give a nice sharp image. |
