60 Mar 19 Reply I know what you mean. My tendency is to want/try to get everything in focus which gets more and more difficult the closer we get to the subject. I've seen some wonderful photos by other photographers using creative DOF very effectively but every time I try to use creative blur, it just looks I've totally blown the the shot. Ah, the perils of macro....... <;-) Mar 21st
60 Mar 19 Reply Thanks Carol, the back of the leaf presented so many more possibilities for cool patterns and color. Using some of the 'blend' modes while in layers has made it easier to bring together the layers. I redid this image incorporating Jennifers comment, adding a slight blur to the background which I think does help the viewer maintain focus on the leaf. Mar 21st
60 Mar 19 Reply Thanks, Bill. I don't remember exactly where my focus was but I see what you mean about the top of the leaf. That's why I used f22, trying to get as much DOF as I could even though that setting can present its own issues. Fun time we macro folks have deciding where our main focal point is. Mar 16th
60 Mar 19 Reply Yes, I see what you mean, Jennifer. A softer background would put more emphasis on the leaf. I'm going to go back and experiment with background. Thank you for your comments. Mar 16th
60 Mar 19 Comment Yup, it's a wave for sure. Nice idea, I like the horizontal presentation. The softness really works for this image. Creates the mood, and helps the wave theme. The balance is good but maybe just a touch more of red saturation? Mar 7th
60 Mar 19 Comment Wow, great image Jennifer, I luv it. The vertical format is perfect for the subject matter. Good eye to capture those frozen leaves; nice that they still had color. The three hanging chards really help make a strong composition, as does the soft background. The only thing I might add is to darken the lower left corner to match the others and help the viewer stay focused on your leaf/ice sculpture. Well done; hope it relieved some of your Cabin Fever. 60 Mar 19 Comment Nice concept, Bill. Gives us a smile seeing the snow in a friendlier light. The only comment I might have is maybe a little boost in the brightness around the eye so it can become more the center of attention for the viewer. Mar 7th
60 Mar 19 Comment Nice image Carol; I like the 'leading lines' of both subject and reflection. It great that you had a super 'natural' light box to give you that nice even lighting. Those thorns look ominus; I do wish more of them were in focus but I understand that's the limitation we live with in the Macro world. Mar 7th
