Thanks Jason. I agree that there might be a little room to crop the bottom. My original thought to leave a large negative space is to spread the feeling of peacefulness, even though we are seeing a moving water.
On the other side, I might also want to have more negative space to push it to extreme? Let me play around with it. Thanks. |

Thanks Terry. I agreed that the color version should have more to see. And it did. It was taken in autumn, particularly in Canada , so the trees are colorful.
The reason why I converted to BNW is because I don't want the distraction of the trees. I want the focus is more on the water and the stone. I want the mood of peacefulness in the picture. And I want to show hopefully the contrast of the movement of the water and the still of the stone, the contrast of the hardness of the stone and the softness of the water. The regret is more on the appearance of the stone is not big enough. If watching carefully, the little stone has a heart shape...but it is too small..LOL.
You remind me that maybe I should to cut the top more, to show less of the tree. I will give it a try to see if it improve a little or not. Pretty much not though.
Unfortunately I cannot find the original at the moment. So I cannot post the original to compare the color vs. the mono. |

Thank Sunil. It was done sometime back. So I cannot find the original, and have only the post-processed jpg file at the moment. That is the reason why I cannot provide the EXIF yet. Will try if I can find it out. |

Hi Brenda. It has good mood in the picture. The color looks pretty good, and the exposure is well controlled.
Couple of thoughts.
1) The overlap of the tower. I guess there must be many photographers there and it might be hard to adjust position. I might move a little bit to avoid that if possible.
2) Can you elaborate on the purpose of getting your camera low. I might try a higher position.
3) For the gondolas, I think that the blurry not enough. I might try a longer (or even much longer) exposure with darker filters. If it is really a quiet morning with no waves, taking a snapshot might be another option.
4) With gondolas getting that much space in the composition, I feel that it might be better to be sharp. With that much blurry (but not so blurry) area, I might crop out the shadow.
Again a nice picture, and you are the expert of long exposure...Cheers.

Hi Jason. A nice picture. And the post-process is well done too. I like the way how the color was handled in the post.
Only 2 thoughts...
1) The crop is good. But if you move a bit further to cut the sky out, it will be a bit more mystery. I did a try on that.
2) (I am not taking this point myself, but since it pops up in my mind, I just mention it) If you can wait a bit, or take a couple of shots, the Buffalo can be seen more. But since I like mystery, what you capture is perfect to me.
Cheers... |
