Thanks Jason.
The title is cool...cooler than the picture itself... :-) |

Hi Brenda, it is a nice picture, also the b&w conversion is nicely done, in particular the recovery of the details.
In terms of the black and white conversion, in this case, I would keep the colour version though. Reason being, the bnw conversion mixes the background and the staircase in such a busy scene. Brightening the external might help a little bit, but I don't feel enough. I would, 1) keep the yellow of the outside world, but reduce the saturation a little bit. If time permits, I might blur and brighten a little bit the outside building and clean up the building's windows. 2)Other than the normal detail recovery of the staircase, I might also enhance the saturation and lighten the wood handle (what does it call?) to demonstrate the texture and the curve. In short, by keeping the colour version, it differentiates the layers, and the textures.
To some extreme, totally whitening the window, might be an artistic try. But it is not my style at the moment. Though, I always want to try that kind of 'fine art' approach.
In most of my pictures, I like to make verticals straight. For this case, since it is within a very narrow environment, I like to keep some level of vertical tilt to show the perspective.
At the end, with 60 seconds, you have done the best work. Cheers. |

I like the revised versions. The cloud can be extracted a little bit details, if that is where you want to viewers to looked at.
The kayak is a good idea to serve as the foreground and the leading line. Without it, the picture is just another good picture. Though in my conventional sense, the size, shape and colour of the kayak might be a bit distracting...Honestly I do like it. In the peaceful scene, the Kayak adds in an element of movement and dynamic. It gives me a feeling of 'Let's start to explore the wonderful scene'
Nice work. Cheers. |

Hi Jason, I missed the sunshine, in particular in the snowing season... :-)
It is a nice try to be creative. And I felt that it worked well in a way. I do like the mood created. However the foreground is not good enough. It seems meaningless. If the branches are covered fully by the snow, and ideally in a good shape, that would be much better.
In general, I like the horse in-focus too. Particularly in this scene, the focus in the horse, also made the branches which were covered by the snow in focus. I think that is more story telling... |

Nice picture. I like Dave and Sunil's crop.
Well, if there would be a chance to re-take the picture, I would have moved the lens a bit lower to include the whole nice looking necklace, and reduce some negative space in the top.
I like your nature style pictures, which are peaceful, happy and impressive. Cheers.

Nice. I like it.
The only thing I might try is to clone out the blue little flag above his head. |

Thanks Brenda. It is always a challenge to shoot in the winter. I have trouble keeping the lens off lens too. This time I brought a small camera with me. The 25mm lens comes with a big lens hood. I found it dealing well will snow in certain level. Btw, I used Microdear Microfiber Deluxe Cleaning Cloth, Large size, which I found it very good, in either covering and cleaning the lens. The last thing, use eyes instead of lens to see the scene. Only shoot when decided to reduce the chance of exposing the lens.
In term of the person, since I used a very small camera, and also her face was in the shadow, so the image quality will not be good if bringing out more. |

Thanks Alan for your choice. If I have to pick the person or a winter atmosphere, I pick the winter mood as my main subject. That is reason why I detailed the snow and once wanted to make the person silhouette. To some extreme, I was thinking if the person should be there or not. Empty scene might have different feeling? Might give it a try once I have time. Cheers, and thanks again. |
