Thanks Mitch for your views,
Color or Mono, for this subject of a dead boat, mono is the only way. Liked the idea of comparing it to coffin, this image is about the death of a small boat and IMO coffin like look achieves what I wanted to say about this abandoned boat.

Color image will not say anything about a dead boat, mono is the only choice. I liked your crop and tried right tilt as suggested by Helen, I did not like the lily in the image, that will take away the idea of something abandoned for a long time.

Tried a different crop and treatment, little less sharp, as this is about a dead boat any inclusion of lily pads will take away the idea of something abandoned for a long time. Attached different ver with some of the suggestions from the group in reply to Terry. |

I tried with vertical crop as suggested by Terry, and turn a little to the right as suggested by you. This image is about abandoned boat and color will not be the right choice of presenting it (IMO), this boat may be out of use for years, dry grass is everywhere out and inside, nothing wrong if it looks like something dead or a coffin. Edited ver is in reply to Terry.

Liked this macro photo, well captured. Some more straightening may look better. Pink in the background? Not sure a "flower" or it can be anything in the distance may be cotton candy :) |

This is good, well captured street picture, liked the crop and the monochrome version, 10 to 15% darker background may give more pop to the main subject. Processed color image looks good too. |

Good experiment, all three images nicely merged.
My views,
you mentioned in your post "great sunset does not make a great photograph", but
your original image of sunset is outstanding and is great.
On your posted collage,
Sky of original image looks good while in processed it looks over processed and not natural.
The couple sitting and watching evening light is well placed but, very bright, darker or silhouette and slight smaller may look better. Standing person is not required looks out of place and doesn't go with a sitting couple enjoying a nice evening.

This is good, well captured and appropriately cropped. The posted image is perfect and looks good as it is, yes, this will also look good in Monochrome, tried quick convert. Print from BW will look great.
Bird / animal photography I have not tried, just a month back got my first long zoom- 150 to 600, will try my hand now.
