My wife and I spent a month traveling in Utah and the surrounding area. Unfortunately our trip coincided with some of the COVID restrictions that especially hit the reservations--access was difficult to impossible to some of the areas. Regardless, it was a wonderful trip and this image reflects the majestic nature of raw country. The horseman was the "cherry" on top. This seems to be a popular image of the area -- Is there always a horseman available whose job it is just to poise for photographers? |

Rituals of faith and community are always interesting. Your devotion to taking the shot, regardless of the circumstances, is a tribute to your interest in capturing the history of such events for those who may forget as our secular societies continue to embrace individualism.
If the "feet" of the drummer are in the original image I would crop in the feet. |

Nice! Almost a "Fish-eye" styled shot if cropped differently. Or Vignetted in Lightroom. |

Nice capture and story. I've always dreamed of having a shot like this. I'm not not much on feeding the birds, but our daughter has a yard full of feeders and flowers to attack all kinds of birds. I guess I need to take the camera over there for a possible surprise. |

Thanks. We think of the sad eyes because of her circumstances but I believe it's because her bewilderment of a tall white man taking her photograph. Maybe she has never seen a white man before, much less have him take out a camera (which she has never seen before). Just my guess. I had to be quick to take the photo. |

The "decoration" (yellow) has a couple of answers. It is ground-up wood pulp -- an insect repellent -- a decorative design -- or some adult women actually do their entire face to to "more white." Since boys and adult men use the mix as well I think the insect repellent is the best answer. I did not hear anyone attribute the decoration to a "faith or religious" issue. Thanks for the question and the comment. |
