Thanks for your kind comment. The sunset backlit the buildings and caused a harsh halo. I applied the glowing edge filter on a separate layer using fairly low settings, inverted the layer with blend mode multiply @ a reduced opacity, to soften the halo. |

Thank you. I will make an adjustment. The version that I submitted here is not a real monochrome. I am still playing with it.

All too often people are so concerned about what others might think of them for appreciating beauty that they unintentionally block themselves from appreciation. Last year the judge disqualified one of my images of a pear on a mirror. It was similar to one I submitted here, last April. |

That's the way it should be. Life would be boring if ice cream only came in one flavor. |

The register is well exposed and tack sharp. Since it is an antique, I took the liberty of giving it more of an antique color, cut back on the exposure and severely blurred the background. I was too lazy to adjust the lighting. |

Karl_Wow! Quite innovative and it works even if it violates the three-subject rule. The bark covered path leads me straight to what you want me to see. The ethereal look adds impact. Have you considered cropping the top of the image, at the top of the painting? You get a totally different look. |

Freddie- Looks like you had a lot of fun playing with this image, it has a nice range of tones. (No Pun intended.) You have an interesting concept. I wish it worked for me. Perhaps my problem is that I don't see how the Venetians relate to each other or, the subject. You might want to consider, removing them; finding a proportionate pianist; etc. I have gone to an art supply store to take photos of little objects with my iPhone, for future use as props. |

Gerrard, nice abstract. It's one that I want to keep looking at. The partial crosshatching plays ying-yang with the curves, and the setoff of orange against the rough and gray with varying luminosity, add to the tension in the image. I wanted to see how it looks as a horizontal, with the lighter areas on the right toned down a smidge. The attached image will give you an idea os my suggestion. |

Judith, Your image tells a story of these difficult times. Your choice to convert to BW enhanced the story by removing any distractions from colors. I am ambiguous about the exaggerated reflections. While they add to the feeling of confusion, or do they tend to confuse the viewer. To me the decision is an artistic choice. |
