Hi Phillipa, Thanks for your comment. Your comments would be spot on if was was creating a flower with the wall as a background. However, I wanted the dahlia to look more like graffiti. For that reason I did not include a lot of the details that would normally be included in a flower portrait. There are at least hundreds of thousands of ways any image can be shown. I guess it comes down to what you feel like doing, at the moment. |

Hi Janice. Thanks for your suggestion. While it may appear counter-intuitive, in order to increase the tonal range: in LAB I lowered the contrast by 0.04;and made some minor change to the brightness and sharpness. If I increased contrast, I would lose tonal range. My intention was for the dahlia to look as if it was painted directly on the "wall." |

Hi Lynn, I took a peek in DDG 32. I like the changed version very much. To my the small rock on the upper left could easily pass for a potato. Nicely done. |

After my above post I realized that this group does not have a bulletin board. So I will hold back on my strong feelings on the subject. |

Hi Jeff, Well done. Your image is a nice variation of the Wabi-Sabi concept. Other than that I have nothing to add to the above comments. |

Hi Charlie, When I look at your image, the first thing I see is his beautiful, penetrating eyes. They clearly say "I am a cat." To my way of thinking, the eyes have it. To me it doesn't matter if Bogy is not all on focus. His eyes say it all. I took the liberty of cropping to just show his face, and attenuate his eyes a bit more. Although both eyes are brighter, they are deliberately still not equal in brightness, tonality, or contrast.
As an aside, one of my friends said they would send me an image of a cat taped to the wall, while the owner is working. |

Hi Charlie, If an image is made for purely artistic purposes, why shouldn't the makers concept of "what should be there.," be the standard? |

Hi Lynne, The only thing I can think of adding to the above comments is a suggesting that you put a think white border around your image so it's easier to see where your image ends against a dark background. |

Nancy, Before I comment I admit to being one of those people who do not think that images, including the subject do not have to be tack sharp. To my eye your images, both monochrome and color, are well done examples of the above. The color and monochrome are different interpretations. Both images are well done. However, I prefer the monochrome because its greater variety of tonal variations seems to add a higher degree of motion. My guess is that the tonality changes when converting from ProPhotoRGB to sRGB may be more evident in color. While I have no experiments to show this, my thinking is that since black is the absence of color, the tonality change maynot be as noticible. |

Hi Lynne, I think that inspiration is one of the main purposes of DDG. My image last month was inspired by both Charlie, and Weston. I would like to see your image, but due to a typo your image was listed as being in this group.

Hi Lynn, Thanks for your good wishes. Fortunately my symptoms are within the normal range of vaccine reactions for people of my age, with my heath issues. I will only say, that if I got the virus, there is a high probability that I would not be writing this. As for my interpretation, we should include that the subject is a chacma baboon, a species that regularly commits infanticide when he is not the father. |

Hi Nancy, Thanks for your comment. I agree that many will not find it appealing. It might be suitable for a complimentary themed man cave. Certainly not for a little girl's bedroom. As for it not being a photograph, although I definitely regard it as a photograph, I will not say more here. That topic is more appropriate for the group bulletin board. So I will comment further there. |

Thanks for your comment. You are correct that I should not have posted this image here. But, it was the first close-up that I cam across, and I had a mild reaction to the COVID vaccine, where I was too tired to do anything for more than about 2-3 hours a day. Yesterday I managed about six, so the doc says I should not have COVID issues, and the vaccine worked.
I bought the CamRanger because I only have DSLRs, and was concerned with camera motion when adjusting focus. |

Hi Lauren, Unfortunately many, if not, most CC judges fail to see subtlety. I put in an image of a very mean looking raptor, he looked so tough that I put boxing gloves on his wings. The judge said: "birds don't wear boxing gloves." Not withstanding that, I also failed to see the subtlety. What I see is a nicely executed image of a flamingo, enjoying the color and shapes in the reflection. I think that if Karl's suggestion was followed, you would have a strong image. |

Hi Karl, What an interesting and creative image. The reflection of the astronaut is quite subtle. My only nit is that I would like to see see it just a tad less subtle.
Very well done. |

Hi Sandra, I like the way you handled the white flower. The sharp center when compared with slightly OOF petals, creates a 3d look appropriate to the orchid. I wish that the whit was not so burned out. Since you decided o eliminate the background, to my eye a severe crop would show more of the curves and subtle texture of the petals. I would like to eliminate the burned out areas, but such is life. |

Hi Judith, Your comment that you have an intermittent problem suggests a loose connection. I would first try the least expensive, try a new connection cord. If that works, I would immediately get a high quality drive, and transfer the data from the old drive to the new, and throw out the old drive. I would then call Apple and/or B&H and ask advice about setting up a backup system. Prior to calling have the model & serial # of your MacBook. The system I use may not be available to you since I use a PC. I have 3 internal drives: one for programs; second for data; and a third for a scratch disk. For backup I use a RAID 1. <https://www.hellotech.com/blog/what-is-raid-0-1-5-10#what-is-raid-1>. (mirror) |

Hi Marie, Isn't the problem in the military a reflection of the attitude of society as a whole. Just as an example, I have a friend, who was a fun loving and popular, elementary school teacher, creative artist, and photographer, who was on track for a career that she loved. All tis came to a sudden end just after she was raped about thirty five years ago. The psychological impact on her was so devastating that she has been unable to work. There are only three people she talks to socially. I have ben sadly watching her mental decline. |

Hi Marie, I think that your unique presentation of this socially important theme will cause viewers to, at the very least stop and think. To my mind The stark meaning and importance of your image, is best shown using a cold black & white format. I am concerned that any other presentation would be distracting. |

Hi Karl, I was debating about the blue on the right edge. My original purpose was to have a different variation in the background. I'm still not sure I made the right decision. The set-up was not mine. I believe that if I used a straight OOC shot, the image would not be mine because nothing in the concept would have been a concept that I created. |
