John, I cannot agree with your statement on the dichotomy. I think that adds a story to the image. |

You guys made me look closer. I appreciate your comments, and upon my closer look, I agree with them. |

Thank you. It was easy to obtain that effect. I applied a reduced opacity mask to the painted layer. The shape of his mouth came because he was singing. The original image was taken along the Savannah waterfront, at night. After we were listening to him for a while and I took some pictures, I was happy to put a few dollars in his basket. |

Great. It is with pleasure that I have seen a trend in that direction.
BTW. Sometimes I do sharp, when I think it appropriate for that image. I usually let the image tell me what to do. |

Joan, at PFLI we had a similar discussion regarding the use of third party textures. It was ultimately decided that there was no practical method of enforcement. E.G. I started the painting effect with Corel Painter in auto mode. I then hand painted selected areas, to my taste. I don't know whether that would pass under the proposed rule.

I hope you realize that I was commenting on interpretation of standards, not the judges. If a golden retriever is entered into a breed competition of pugs, it would not do very well. My reply to your response, was simply meant that many fine abstract expressionist images might not receive high ratings, even in the creative category. I have heard too many judges state that they don't know what it is, before giving a low score. I have also seen an increase in judges giving decent scores to surrealistic images. |

I would like to thank everybody for their comments. After thinking about your comments, I should have stayed with the original. If the event anyone here is interested in playing with multiple exposure, here is what I learned: When doing a tree, I use center point focus, so that each shot is as close to the focal point on the prior shot as feasible. That way, the tree will be round. I also put auto gain on, so that the sum of the exposures in camera, will add up to a normal exposure. I have also found ME useful when I forgot to bring an ND filter. Of course, a tripod should be used for that purpose. The image is an example, where I wanted to see two sunsets. I too five exposures, about a sew seconds apart, and then moved the camera and took five more. I removed one of the wrecked boats in PS.
BTW, and off topic, I have made the mistake of accidentally leaving ME on, and gotten some interesting results. While they gave me some inspiration, I deleted those images, because I don't consider an accidental image my art work. |

I don't know what it is either. To my way of thinking recognition of an object doesn't matter, except perhaps to some competition judges who can only think in a box. To clarify my statement, just look at a cloud.

Susan, Your combination of graphics with complimentary watercolors works beautifully. To my eye it is morph of early modernism. Well done. |

Barrie, The image itself is good as a background. It makes me want to see more. Like the opening bars of a great symphony, I anxiously anticipate what follows. |

Good creative thinking. You stopped just at the right point. There is a theme of development where you start with less detail, and continue adding enough detail, to get the final image. To my eye there are a few bright spots in the center and corners that tend to distract me from the theme. In my VF, I made those changes. |

Nicely done, and very creative. Placing the coin on an image of the prairie adds a story to your image that takes it up several notches. I do agree with Brian that your image wold have been stronger if the grass in the foreground was not soft. |

Thank you for your comment. I agree that the original has a different look, I thought I would try for a more Autum like look. On reflection, i may of overprocessed the original. |
