1 Jul 18 Comment Good point, Sam, about uncertainty concerning the subject. I envisioned this image as part of a series about the GG Bridge, which would make the subject clearer. I also share your discomfort with Isaac's flipped version because this is an iconic place. Anyone who knows the GG Bridge knows which direction it runs. Jul 28th
1 Jul 18 Reply Good suggestions, Neal. I'll get those sliders sliding in Lightroom. Jul 11th
1 Jul 18 Comment Wow! This is one of the best fireworks photos I've ever seen! In fact, the city lights almost overwhelm the fireworks themselves. The only constructive comment I can think of is--the red, white and blue dome on the far left is a bit distracting, although it certainly fits the theme. Jul 11th
1 Jul 18 Comment What a wonderful example of foreground/middle ground/background! There is something interesting to look at in all parts of the image. The sign is so colorful that the sky and hills look a bit drab in comparison. What would happen if you adjusted the color/luminance of those elements? Jul 11th
1 Jul 18 Comment I agree with you, Sol, that the background really enhances the image. If you just shot the two monks, it wouldn't set a mood. On a technical note, did you try to tone down the highlights at the far right? It would make the image hang together a bit better if the lighting is more consistent across the entire picture. Jul 3rd
1 Jul 18 Comment Joey, that's a tough subject to shoot, with huge dynamic range between the dark background and the brightness of the fire. I like the way you composed it. Jul 3rd
1 Jul 18 Comment What an impressive image, Neal! I especially like the texture around the head--I never knew that butterflies could be so fuzzy. You mentioned that you had cropped the image so I'm wondering if you were cropping out distractions or just tightening your focus on your subject. It feels a little tight to me but I don't know what challenges you were facing. Jul 3rd
1 Jul 18 Comment You did a lot of work, Dennis, to share this joke with us! Jul 3rd
1 Jul 18 Comment Thanks, Stephen, for your kind words. With regard to your question--I was so focused on overall composition that I never thought about positioning the heads of the telescopes. Jul 3rd
