Great image Bill, Well balanced exposure, the light and shadow on the front tower really bring out the texture. I like the depth of field from front to back and looking through to the sea adds a lovely extra element of interest. |

HI Guys, Although I think many of the suggestions bring me to a point similar to what Oliver produced. I reluctantly :-) reduced the shadows from the rocks and dodged the tree with a slight curves adjustment. I lightened the foreground making sure the warm orange around the rocks and tree was a bit more noticeable.
Michael suggested working with the orange in the sky, I tried and was very tricky, I didn't want to be left with a halo through and around the branches. I tried being subtle although I'm not totally convinced about the colour. I also removed the tower as Bill suggested. If you have time your thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers David |

I agree with Michael about the horizon. The reflection in the calm water is great and the line of cloud and colour in the sky is beautiful. |

After some time looking at this image I began to realize the enormity and scale of this image. I also realize there is so much more going on around Niagara Falls. I feel you captured an interesting nighttime image and for me a really interesting perspective. I like the long exposure and the effect it creates. I assume you your very limited in your vantage point? I thought Michaels comment about cropping might work, it also made me think of other possibilities. Might including the falls and the bridge and removing the bottom elements be a good option as well? Good job Hattie. |

I like this one too, you really captured a dramatic sky. The colours are wonderful and the exposure around the sun is good. I guess the white mist is sea mist, it looks good. After a little googling, this area looks like a wonderful place to visit. |

Hi Oliver,
Thanks for popping by. Australia is a big country like the U.S. if you come, have a good plan and don't try and do everything.
When I visited this location last week I spent about an hour enjoying the changing light and the lovely peacefulness of this hilltop location. Whilst there I didn't miss the opportunity to capture a variety of exposures ranging from +-3 stops. This image is only a single capture but if needed I could blend many images to increase the dynamic range of the image. Amongst the many images I have, there are many that are average exposures. Some exposed for the sky, others for the rocks and others for the tree. Some are exposed in a similar way to the processing you've done, open shadows, reduced sky exposure. Your process has certainly added an overall emphasis to the greens, warm oranges and darker blue. I can also see it's opened up the dark side of the tree to reveal some detail. This type of processing does have an effect on the sky and in my version, I didn't really want to make it darker but rather leave it as a natural blue sky with a soft gradation.
Cheers David

Hi Le, I think this a lovely image, appears sharp and the white of the lighthouse looks good as does the shadow area. Sharpness is sometimes hard to tell in these small images but what I can see looks sharp. The bank of clouds look good, adds a nice bit of drama in the background. My only suggestion and I'm sure you've considered it already, perhaps crop to a panoramic format to remove at least a quarter of the sky. |
