Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
62 Jun 18 Comment Thank-you all for your comments and ideas. As I returned to the color image I realized that the images was captured using the vivid filter in the camera which also, in my opinion, further degrades the original. I'm pretty content with the image as is and am glad I was able to create the existing version. Since then, I have added a Sony RX100 Mk5 to my collection and that has replaced the Canon point and shoot which I'm now saving for this grandson as a starter camera. Each time he visits, we spend a little time practicing his "seeing".
Again, thanks to all and I look forward to the next assignment.

62 Jun 18 Comment Often a bit of effort goes into getting to the best location for a shot, this was worth that effort. I agree that the wires are a distraction and add nothing to the image. I think Oliver's version does help bring out a couple of the key elements that make this image into something special. His cropping and tweaking the lighting work, especially highlighting the road, as for me, that is a key focal point in the image that serves guide my eye around the image. Congratulations on the awards the image has earned. Jun 9th
62 Jun 18 Comment I agree with Oliver about your sense of timing, many times shots like this are missed because the photographer is not prepared. Considering the color image you began with, I feel you've done well to achieve the B&W result. I do agree that the man in the background is an intruder and could be removed. This certainly is complex image with lots of glass and reflections. I also agree that her face could be toned down a bit, but otherwise well done. Jun 9th
62 Jun 18 Comment I believe that the B&W works quite well with this image and for me, I see a leading line as my eye travels from the lower right, across the faces all looking the same direction, with such focus. The white pillar does help provide a backdrop that channels the eye to continue moving left. And, getting 9 out of 10 faces is pretty good for spontaneous shot. Congrats on the use of your photos in St. Paul. Jun 9th
62 Jun 18 Comment This is a wonderful image that captures the joy of the moment. I agree with the comment that the color version is distracting and the B&W more quickly draws the viewer to the most important aspect of the image, the faces. Well done and excellent capture of a special moment. Jun 9th
62 Jun 18 Reply I like the idea of using the filters to take the sky down a bit and highlight the subject. I too tend to go more toward the dark side with my processing, I like a bit of drama. Jun 4th
62 Jun 18 Reply Thank you for you input, I like Paul's idea of using the graduated filter to tone down the sky, will give that a try and post the result. Jun 4th
62 Jun 18 Comment The composition with the couple near the windows, interacting is a good capture. However, in color it struggles to attract my attention. The B&W version does a better job of creating a leading line that leads to the couple. Also, the darker edges serve to frame and highlight the couple. I don't know that I would make any changes.
