Concerning the border issue, we had a discussion last night with an officer from N4C, and I think my work on the image would have passed. Here is the image before it went through a Topaz filter. |

I really like what you have done to a complex image. And to a snapshot subject like a single tree. This is very original, and I find the photo you gave us deconstructs the original image and helps us to feel the texture of trees and bark and leaves. Colors are basic and bright, giving the image high impact, and I especially like the back branches and twigs in blue. Very interesting approach. |

I like the juxtaposition of black and white with color. Its simple and striking, and the posterizing works for such a well known subject. My work is usually judged on Impact and Interest first, and I think its high impact. But I agree that one more element would help the interest aspect. Love the colors! |

Just in time for Halloween! That was my first reaction. I like everything you did but particularly like the center of the image, where you have just a bit of color, and some shapes that are a relief from the oval heads. And I just noticed that the bottom shape looks like a man or figure holding something up. Sort of ... here's a body for all these heads. This is a great other-worldly image that creates a distinct mood. And a fine example of creating something from an unpromising starter photo. Thank you for the detail process!! It will remind me to document my processes better. |

Joan, what a terrific idea! And use of an image that you probably took in Yellowstone. I love the buffalo come to life. I also think the background looks like his home stomping and grazing ground, and warms up the effect. I agree that the bottom of the background made me concerned. Kudos!! |

Thanks to all for the comments. I actually added borders to this image before I used a filter. I added a brown, black and gray border in different parts of the image. I realize that recently all of my creatives have used Topaz filters for a final effect. I've decided to go on a Topaz and other filters diet, and work a creative from simpler and more direct means. Its hard with so many new filters and tools coming out and filling our email inboxes with tempting shortcuts. But my guess is that N4C rules are going to exclude these filters soon, as Joan said.
I happen to love this image which shows a triangular devise that can be used to prevent unsanitary uses for corners of a building.. . :-)) |
