What I love about this shot is how the foreground lines all full the eye to the runner in red. You got the runner in good stride too. To my eye, I would be tempted to crop the image in from both left and right to center the image on the action - but that's just my newspaper sports eye. The blur is well done! |

Very nice capture! I bet you also got some nice shots of vintage cars too. Knowing this is in Cuba and the person wearing a US flag is quite the contrast and/or tension. I like how your right edge is enough to bring the viewer's eye down the side, bringing the window edge back to the person. The post/tree is also a dominant edge that pushes the eye back to the person. You also have a nice separation of the hat to the beige-painted area. Kudos! |

Very well done in a Lens Baby type of way! My only suggestion would be to have a slightly longer stem. |

Gordon, is the man left- or right-handed? Also, the hand should be further up on the stock because he looks like he might have to use the rifle. Whatever handed, the rifle should be held as if he could jerk it into position to shoot. Fine picking here, in the color image, look at the brown in the spats and the brown color of the gun stock. Spats are lighter brown than the gun stock. Look at the monotone image and the stock is the same hue as the spats. Doesn't bother me, it's your artistic license! Otherwise, a flawless image.

Jay, nothing wrong with staying in one's backyard! I agree with others about the water droplets. My only suggestion would be to darken the lower left corner because the leaf coloration is rather odd. Or you could use Gen Fill to see what it might give you. One idea to get around the "soft" spot at right, just crop in from the right and it can even get rid of that lower left corner. |

Sanford, what a thrill to go on such a photographic excursion! I think you did a fine job with the drone image. IMHO the sheep are the lead subjects of the image and as such the waterfall - though nice to see - is a distraction and I would remove it. On the other hand, if the subject is the bowl of the mountain area, leaving the waterfall in is okay but you need more dodging and burning of the bowl area. Overall, the image as is, needs some lighting contrast with dodging and burning to make it more dynamic and draw the viewer's eye to where you want it. |

Ian, a wonderful bird's eye view of the harbor. Good circular motion within the image. The boats going toward the peninsula is good because that peninsula brings the eye back. Maybe some of those specs are sharks - I hear that harbor breeds a few! Is there a naval base at that peninsula? |

Thanks for your comments Gordon. More thoughts: The stormy sky approaching (and it rained buckets 10 minutes after I took this shot!) was an opportunity for drama within the image. The greens in the final are accurate for this unusually wet September. The red barn is sheet metal and as is the case with metal has faded over the years. New ones are a vibrant red, so I opted to go with the new look to contrast with the weathered wood of the old shed. Just remember the original is RAW and flat. True, it is a matter of taste as to how much to juice something up and I appreciate your insight on this! |
