56 Oct 22 Comment With animals, isn't really all about the eyes? This was, dare I say, purrfect! The contrast between the fur and the background sets some tension in the image and makes the watchful eyes speak. The color of the eyes is amazing! The backlighting on the left ear (the cat's right) doesn't mix well with the background and seems out of place. Other than that the fur is wonderfully painted. Oct 15th
56 Oct 22 Comment I must say that even with your problems this turned out exceptionally well. The background blends well with the model. However, the black smoke isn't accurate. I've attached an image with smoke from such a pistol. Oct 15th
56 Oct 22 Comment YOur choice of the Bliss setting was a good one and I like the effect that it had to make this abstract. Why didn't you lighten the shadows so the faces could be better seen? Leaving the small boy at bottom left helps balance out the image, but the weight definitely slides to the left especially with the yellow tape, and the whole action of the image is to the small boy. So the story is about what eh saw at the Pow Wow. Oct 15th

76 Oct 22 Comment Love the choice of b&w for a vintage bomber! The image is well weighted with the prop and landing gear on the left third vertical. As to the story, do you want people to know it was at an air show? If so, leave that background plane in. If not, clone it out. That plane flew a lot of missions! Oct 14th
76 Oct 22 Comment Love the position of the bird and its wings - the feathers are well outlined. The bird's eye appears ot be sharp. Ditto on the overexposure - if you're shooting infrared, do you under expose for the light or the white? Nice capture and great timing, congrats! Oct 14th
76 Oct 22 Comment The bird is impeccable, congratulations! YOur processing is spot on and your background was wonderfully softened. For bird watchers, it is about the bird, photographers tend to be over demanding with expectations. Love this for what you captured at the time you captured it. Oct 14th
76 Oct 22 Comment "Concerning taste there is no dispute, said the old lady as she kissed the cow." May Dad taught me that. Love what you did in pulling out the color and details on the jets. I think your sky and clouds are spot on as it adds a contrast in blue color - it is about the BLUE Angels and the jets are cold blue so the warm blue for the sky is an excellent choice IMHO. Excellent end result, print and put on a wall! Oct 14th
76 Oct 22 Comment Awesome! I disagree about the shadow on the face - this image is not about better light, it is about a contrast of light and dark. Keep the shadows, they add to tghe drama of the image. If you haven't I'd enter this into the community PSA Image competition on Facebook, it's that good! Oct 14th
76 Oct 22 Reply It was 1/8 second. As far as the crop, your suggestion would be good for a square of the image or perhaps an 8x10. In this, my Dad had a saying, "'Concerning taste, there's no dispute,' said the old lady as she kissed the cow." That's why cropping a larger image to various dimensions often satisfies the taste of other individuals. Thank you for your comments! Oct 14th

88 Oct 22 Comment There's good circular motion within the image, the person gives perspective, and the foreground structure is on the right vertical third. Though the structures are a good repeating pattern and as the eye raies vertically, the hill slopes bring the eye back into the image. You put warmth back into the iimage and that's what I think about Indian, it's hot! Your sky replace fill the negative space well. Oct 14th
88 Oct 22 Comment Rich, as a former newsman, I like your crop because it gets to the heart of the story. The water line is your leading line that takes you from bottom right to the person and then to the dunes and and back to the person. Ditto on the highlights. I included an image with your crop with recovered highlights and a littel cleaning up of the sand from the orignal. I used the Golden Thirds to puut the peron at the interestion of the horizonetal bottom third and left vertical third. Oct 14th
88 Oct 22 Comment The image appears to use the Golden Third with the high wave at the right third intersection. Although the spray goes abobe the horizon line, it would have been better if the top portion of the wave had been too. The foam at the bottom makes a nice border. NIce capture! Oct 14th
88 Oct 22 Comment Charles, this is somethng I struggle with too in reflection images: is the story about the reflection or the image being reflected? When the water is as placid as this, I have gravitated to emphasizing the reflection and cutting off the real sky so I can let that show in the reflection. In this case a 16x9 crop may do the trick. You've got various shades of green in this image and I'd emphasize that to increase the contrast (HSL). What croppng overlay did you use for balance? A wonderful scene at a wonderful time for a wonderful capture! Oct 14th
88 Oct 22 Comment Tight cropping causes tension within the image. This photo is about tension aso I'd crop the sides close too (see image). I also darkened it a bit so her face would show more because that's where the story is. I love the circular flow within the image with her arms pointing toward the cap. Since she's looking right, my crop allowed for more pace at right. Nice street image. Oct 14th
88 Oct 22 Reply Yes, I think it would be a nice "painting" and I'll try that. Oct 14th
88 Oct 22 Reply Yes, I'll touch up the clouds a tad. The sun was shining in back of me when I took this but I think the darker clouds would prvide mor contrast. Oct 14th
88 Oct 22 Reply Thanks, I'll adjust the clouds a tad. Oct 14th
88 Oct 22 Reply Rich, the cropping you suggest was done when I made a 16x9 image of this (the image shown is not 16x9), which I think looks better - you and I are on the same wavelength! Oct 8th
