I alwats wondered what was in Dark Holes, now I know haha! You took an unremarkable image and turned it into a wonderful potraiture of the Meerkat. You should ask the zoo if they want to sell prints/canvas of this - it's adorable. The animal's eye is sharp, the fur painted better than the original, and the background texture and excellent choice. Another amazing image! |

A++ Gerhard, one of the favs for your work! You've kept the eye sharp and the color boost of the breast feathers complements that of the flower. Brilliant work on the background. Kudos! |

I use Jim Lasala's oil painting preset a lot in my photography to soften the visual impact, so nice choice there! Your use of the sketch background make it look like a museum display setting, nice touch. Overall very nicley done but I think the top of the rach looks like the highlights have been burned out, unlike the original. |

As a baseball enthusiast. I really appreciate what you've done here. Excellent choice is placing the arch slightly off center as it nicely balances the weight at lower right. I'm sure you could sell this to a Cardinals fan - not me though, I'm a Brewers fan haha! You might want to plana round with putting players on the field and then put a large baseball at lower right likes it's a homer flying out of the stadium ... |

Gordon you managed to enhance the nice lighting and showcased it in your choice of b&w conversion. Your use of Topaz and vignette was an excellent way to showcase drama while maintaining the hair of the mane against the background. What owner wouldnt love this portrait? Horse lovers will buy it. |

I agree with Ian that cropping off the ground would be a sound move, perhaps using a square crop. Love the shadows against the white and grey of the building and there's additonal contrast with the siding lines and the window lines. Really like this image! |

Eyes sharp, check, Feather detail on wings, check. I agree on cropping out the small bird at upper left even if it cuts into the small bird's wing because there isn't much detail in it. I would suggest more space at the top of the image so as not to crowd the bird's wing. I loved that you cropped it to the action! |

Spooky ... could have been on the movie set for "Stranger Things"! Not much is colorful about death and cemeteries so your infrared choice was a good one. The front tombstone is on the one-third line with intersects on the bottom and right. I think you should play around with a vignette on this - both black and white. I sometimes convert color images to infrared first and then go the b&w route from there to see what the contrasts may/may not be. Have a fun time with your "new" infrared camera! |

Nice of you to visit Gordon and thank you for for CC! I pondered a vignette, but then I was faced with the question of how much or to burn the corners and sides ever so slightly. "Concernng taste, there's no dispute," said the old lady as she kissed the cow. How much/little in your artistic eye? Which PSA group are you with so I can visit? |

I like the way you juiced the colors and the sky nicely complements the yellow. I would get rid of the bird at top and the round mess around it. I would suggest using a circular grandient to lighten the people at center to entice the eye to travel through the photo. I appreciate your leveling of the far building's roof line. Thanks for the background about this scene! |

If you're target was to depict anger, fright, menancing clouds and sky, I think you have succeeded. Pushing blacks definitely creates contrast. The way yo uhave lightened the foreground sand tells me this is a pathway from Light to Darkness. It tells me the ocean is about to destroy part of the shoreline. The viewer wonders if you rally walked down that beack or just turned around. |

I love the detail and light contrasts in the clouds, very well done. Tough one to find a horizon line, but the image visually tips left because of the sand path and the person in red (nice touch for perspective and balance!). Overall, a nice capture of clouds! |

Charles, I love your choice of b&w for this given its subject. You're right to "grunge" it up so the walls at right and left present a contrast to the smooth stones walkway. The light at mid tunnel draws the eye down the walkway and the visitor in enticed by what may be at the end of the corrdior. I hope you took some photos of the walls for some texture backgrounds on future images. Very well done! |

Nice placement of the jet - gives a reason for including that portion of the sky. Very nice DOF. I'd get rid of the faint jet trail at top right. What about a black vignette so the eye comes back down into the image from the top? The sunset colors are outstanding! |

Welcome to the group, Mark! Overexposure at top, no problem: use a 16x9 crop! Also a tigher crop may put more emphasis on the log and make it THE focus of the photo. The fence is a nice leading line. The blown out highlights on the water surface at right is also a negative. I also think you should lighten the image a tad. I have attached my crop and lighting as reference. |

As to WHY I took this, I am compiling images for a book and a calendar on the Skunk-Foster State Natural Area and have been shooting there for several years. |
