Hmmm, I think I would have smoothed the floor out for a contrast to the grunge in the rest of the image and provide a horizontal element to the strong verticals. Maybe made it b&w? I applaud you for "seeing" an image here that I probably would have ignored. I have to shoot more cityscapes ... |

Definitely your ballpark and a home run in my opinion. I like the vibrance layer, adds that "snap" to the image.

Thus the advantage of a DSLR shooting RAW compared to a phone.
Portraits are tough especially with highlights and shadows. I'd get rid of the flare behind his neck.
Ball caps present a challenge and that's where you use the +/- button to deal with that specific shading. Again, not an option on a phone.
Composition wise you nailed it. Keep taking portraits!
I'd suggest taking family photos at birthday parties and gatherings and get acquainted with portraits. Family puts up with "us" and our needs haha! |

Turned an "eh" photo into a "pow". I could see this hanging on a wall of one of the building's foyers in this image. I also am not acquainted with Fractalius but I would have experimented with the sky a bit more to see what different contrasts I could get. This processing really brought out the architectural lines. |

Ditto as above. My only suggestion would be to clone out that orange and white cone. Barcelona is a wonderful city to get lost in ... literally happened to me when I was in college. |

What an exciting place to have at your disposal! Love the colors. I agree with Cyndy and I'm sure you will also use the gradient filter in Lightroom to give that sky some wonderful expression. So much to work with in this image, I'm jealous! I'd have to travel hours to see a sunrise over Lake Michigan. |

My bad in submitting the images. What is designated as Original is actually the processed image. |

I like your image cropping better than Gary's. I would however cut off a portion of the left of the image as your green trees at right are cropped pretty close, but that's just my eye. Foreground pretty much in rule of thirds to the sky. I have also had to overcome my photojournalist tendencies to "crop to the action" in an image, which doesn't necessarily give you balance. I think the foreground balances the weight of the barn (in Wisconsin we call these sheds as barns look very different). |

What a great discussion here! Coming from a photojournalist background, I have an inbuilt resistance to altering images, which has taken years to overcome. Was the image exactly as you saw it and that's what you want to convey? Or, do you play the artist and "interpret" it for other viewers? I have converted to stronger coloration in my images for an artistic interpretation without losing the reality of what I indeed saw despite what the camera took. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ... and the buyer. |

I'm jealous! The tree at left adds something for me. I like the clouds at top right. Both images, vertical and original, are what your tastes are for its use. Both are very good. |

I think the other buildings provide a nice frame around the orange one and the blue bus provides a little splash of color. My eyes are drawn up, come down the grey at left to the yellow building to the arch canopy and then back up, so there's circular rotation. |

Gary, thanks for the revamping, I like what you did. I do not have On1 -- what does it cost and how is it different from Lightroom and Topaz? I thought about the street crack and had already removed several; hmmm, maybe you're right. My eye thought it paralleled the shadow of the tree trunk further down the road. Thanks for your kind comments too. |
