Ian, yes, there were many many people on the ground in front of it so I had to shoot high. Your are right about the banding ... I need to work images at 100% to catch that! All of you mentioned the clouds so I will take another crack at this image and see how it turns out. All very helpful comments, thank you! |

That's a good point! I also know that the texture I applied really affected the sky and clouds. I may replace the sky and see how that goes with the magic wand separating out the planes ... |

BTW, that's not it's tail section, there is a cargo plane parked just behind it but I thought it added an interesting effect. |

I love the lighting on this! Nice touch to have the flower to one side and the bokeh background with leaves pointing toward the flower. Personally, I would try to bring more definition to the flower petals with the adjustment brush but that's my personal taste. Very nicely done. |

I guess I would offer that I'd pick what direction I would want light to come from, then use the adjustment brush to darken the other direction's flat green areas and make them richer with HDL color adjustments. To my eye the light is coming from the left so I'd play with the right 3/4s of the image. Use a little dehaze. There's a lot to work with here and it would be a lot of fun adjusting the exposure/shadows and clarity with the adjustment brush. |

Wow, that skyline has changed since I was there in the early 1970s! Personally, I would have cropped the left side a bit (after the 2nd illuminated building near the boat in the foreground) so there would be more contrast with the dark right side of the image and the tower flag pole wouldn't be dead center. I'd also balance the weight of the sky with that of the water (water is 3 fingers high and sky is 4 fingers high). You really caught the impressiveness of the tower and the boats give the viewer an idea about how tall it really is. A very intriguing image for me. |

I apologize but it's the news photojournalist in me that would like to see some faces or people (backyard bonfire) and that would have moved the high flame off to the right or left so that it isn't centered and also give the viewer some indication as to the size of the fire/flames. You have some nice colors to work with here. Maybe try HDR filter/preset, an adjust brush. I know of some photogs that try and find a "face" in a fire like this that makes it more dramatic; I see one three fingers up and almost center looking left. Work to enhance that. Hope this helps! |
