Neil, A very nice street image of a street poet. I believe you convey her ability to block out the crowds and the music with your decision to blur the back ground. It focus all our attention on her posture and her sign.
nicely captured |

Margaret, Great image but then I'm a sucker for well taken steam engine images. Even the folds of his overalls and the grease on his cap and shirt are clear and sharp. Nicely done!!
Not to far away from Lancaster in Scranton Pa, is a national historic site called Steamtown. Its a huge railroad museum. Worth a trip if your looking to take more steam engine photos.

Bev, As I wrote to Hildi I never know whether to leave things like that as is or take it out.
Seeing your version settled it for me. Thank you kindly

Thank you Hildi, I too found that a bit distracting but never know whether I should leave something like that in or take it out.
But seeing Bevs version you are clearly right Thanks

Bev, Great image. Removing the bit of trees makes it even stronger. The processing has a painting quality to it |

Sean, I agree with Bev. I much prefer the B&W version and the clouds help break up the sky. I also like the timing of the sun being between the supports of the pier.
Well seen

Hildi, Congrats on being selected for an exhibit and appearance in a nature conservancy calendar. I genuinely like the image and I'm sure not going to mess with success.

Myo, How do you get these wonderful muted colors! Like Colin I would have been interesting to see what the image would have looked like closer but this works. Traffic, a busy side walk, street vendors all on a cold wet snowy day. The building with its vertical lines give a strong structure to the image. Well seen nicely captured.

Welcome to the group Hema, Its good to have another voice.
It is a beautiful image. I feel like it should be surrounded by a yellow boarder and have the words NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC across the top. I really like the feel of the image, the color and composition adds the feel and sense of movement on the image. And its a great reminder that monochromatic need not be B&W and that what constitutes street photography truly depends on where one finds her or himself.

Hattie, Thank you. I like the crop it does put more focus on her. I'll try to add a vignette
The f-stop and ISO I was stuck with. The lens was as opened as it was going to go and I needed the ISO 5000 to capture the light at 1/125 shutter speed.
I did shot a few images with a lower ISO but the shutter speed was then to low to capture any of the dancing.

Bev, Why thank you very much. As I many of us my age did, I learned on B&W because that's what folks did and it was possible to develop and print your own work.
So I have a comfort with it that I just don't have with color yet. Some day I hope

Hattie no no no, I apologize if I made you think that. I clearly don't think you failed. I asked my questions so I can understand your thinking/visual process.
I believe we all make decisions about what to include in the frame and what not to include in the frame, I'm just not always clear or sure about how or why I make those decision. Its something that I've been trying to ask myself more frequently.
I'm a huge fan of Evans and the reference to him was meant to convey that I like your image, a great deal.

Very nice Colin, especially for a 1st attempt. I like how you choose to keep the colors simple and made decisions to support a story line. I like that you kept the clock. The red of his shoes and the NB bag have him "popping" away from the wall and the crop adds to the sense of movement through the image

Bev, Yes I too think it is a very colorful image. The crop works and creates a good street portrait. The original with the man in blue behind the pole, the torn white poster and the clutter on the roof also works for me. It becomes less a portrait and more of a story.
Well seen.

Hattie, Your channeling Walker Evans! A type of image I can see him taking, straight up documentation.Nicely seen and captured.
Any chance of seeing an image of the whole building?

Bill,I really like the image Bill. As Colin states the red and white carries through the image and the composition is strong.
I also think the crop adds to the feel and sense of movement in the image.
Nicely done
