Brian, I always appreciate your thoughtful replies and hope you don't mind some push back from time to time. I debated having the flame follow the other trails. What do you think of this version? |

Brian, Thanks for your comments. I have had feedback from others (and possibly you) recommending I avoid having subjects leaving the image. If you look back on many of my images they often are leaving the frame. For me, the subject leaving the frame is part of the story. A skeleton is a symbol of death and his departure emphasizes his defiance. |

Lisa, Thank you. I agree about the headlights. I had some trouble creating a realistic look. Do you have any suggestions on techniques? |

Lisa, I love this exploration. The use of computational technology creates an image which could never be seen by the eye, making it very compelling. Are the waves technologically rendered? Would be interested in seeing the sunset before all the tweaks are applied to see behind the curtain. |

Nadia, This is a compelling magical realism photo. I agree with Lisa regarding the lady feeling like a cut and paste. I also find the number of birds a bit distracting and wonder if the image may be stronger with one(or no) standing bird(s) instead of 4. This ultimately falls under a "personal preference" category. |

Tom, I like how you've created a nicely balanced image with great tonal range.I'm not sure if I find the small amount of color in the bird an accent or a distraction. I might consider an all black and white handling boosting the contrast on the foreground bird. |

Brian, It seems you've successfully entered the world of suprematism. There is something about your handling of this image that makes me want to "solve the puzzle" i.e. put things back together how they started. There is a tension created by the puzzle pieces not telling the story. That tension ultimately causes engagement. |

Peggy, As always your thoughtful viewing of my image is touching. I remember reading somewhere a message suggesting we all want to be heard and accepted. You do an amazing job connecting with the message of my (and others) images in a way that is exceptional. Thank you. |

Alan, I am familiar with his art. It is VERY strongly influenced by Dali to the point it doesn't feel as original as an extension of Dali's work. |

Alan, I like this one too. You are brave to take on Metoo in this way as gender politics can be contentious, especially in the Bay Area. This image is successful on many levels, conscious and unconscious. |

Maria, This is a beautiful image. I have to agree with Alan on his less is more perspective. The image is so strong on many levels I wonder if it would be better with no birds in the sky at all. I realize we are venturing into personal preference territory. |

Kirsti, A wonderful image just in time for Halloween. I like both of your versions. I could imagine another handling in which you take the woman into an even higher contrast direction. |

Aavo, I also like this high contrast image. Your framing and composition work nicely. I agree with Kirsti with regards to having the dancers match better. One other option would be to crank up the contrast on the dancers as they are much more in the light grey zone than the rest of the image. |

Peggy, I love your handling of the colors in this image. You've created a magical back drop for the return of the bird. There do appear to be a variety of artifacts created by the filters you've applied. I agree with Kirsti with regards to removing some of the distracting elements. I also agree with Aavo regarding the green (at least as it unnaturally covers some of the branches). |

Alan, Thank you. Surprisingly I was not familiar with his work. He's exceptional. A bit humbling seeing the range a full time artist can create. |

Alan, To have you see my two favorite surrealist painters as influences in my image is flattering. I am especially fond of Magritte for his "cleaner" technique. |

Aavo, Don't torture yourself. I have enjoyed working from the unconscious more and more. This creates images that don't have a fixed message. The original has a tree in the background. I worked to extend that. At some level this is a blending of Mother Earth and mother Mary. I did work to have the tree trunk integrate with her in a way it almost looked like her lower body, not quite. The matching of the green tone in her top was a selling point for the choice of this tree image over others. I am not a fan of art that is too heavy handed in telling the viewer how to feel or what the meaning is. When I look at a beautiful sunset I don't struggle to find meaning, I just enjoy the feeling it creates. |
