41 Oct 21 Reply Lisa, Thanks for your comments. I responded to Jan's suggestion about the monkey placement above. I think it might be a challenge with the current flower image Oct 20th
41 Oct 21 Reply Lisa, Thanks for your comments. I responded to Jan's suggestion about the monkey placement above. I think it might be a challenge with the current flower image Oct 20th
41 Oct 21 Reply Jan, I appreciate the feedback. I had placed the monkey more medially but it crowded the flower some. I think there are some balance limits do to the cropping of the initial flower photo Oct 20th
41 Oct 21 Reply Thanks for the information and the link Oct 20th
41 Oct 21 Comment Kathy, What a great tweak. I hadn't given any thought to removing the out of focus sepal. Your version keeps the focus on the relevant elements, thanks! Oct 17th
41 Oct 21 Comment Henry, I like how you've created this impressionistic landscape. The image begs for a subject to me. I imagine a young child dressed in white chasing a rabbit down the path. Oct 12th
41 Oct 21 Comment Lisa, I am always impressed with how many interesting techniques you are skilled at using. Can you share your process a little more as I am curious how you are able to line things up in the camera so precisely. Oct 12th
41 Oct 21 Reply Henry, Thank you for your comments. I always play around with size when pasting an animal on a flower! Actually I play with every parameter, color, hue, saturation, contrast, opacity etc. I end up choosing the one that looks best to me. I have learned over time we each have different preferences. I appreciate the feedback as I find it helpful hearing how my images affect others. Oct 12th
41 Oct 21 Comment Jan, I very much like this image. It has a very playful and thought provoking quality. I'm not bothered by the lighting of the Iguana. Having a glowing mannequin releases the viewer from having to apply usual conventions. I really enjoy being part of this talented group of artists who continue to explore creative boundaries. Oct 6th
41 Oct 21 Comment Tom, I really like this image. From your choice of a pano to the rendering of the sky to your Hitchcock like cameo it's a very strong and enjoyable image to view. I have no suggestions this month Oct 6th
41 Oct 21 Comment Kathy, I agree with Tom, the handling of the background is beautiful, reminds me a little of the Mona Lisa. Your whimsical handling of the cows is very enjoyable. This does look like a post card you'd find in a cool card store. Oct 6th
41 Oct 21 Reply Tom, Thanks. I can't recall which preset topaz filter I applied. I tried 5 or 6 and that one gave me a look that I liked. After I apply a filter it often goes thru a bunch of iterations in photoshop afterwards which are often hard to remember. Not sure other people's workflows. I often put each layer thru a series of layer masks to adjust brightness/contrast/hue/saturation/color balance etc. Oct 4th

54 Oct 21 Reply Peggy, I like this version too. Oct 17th
54 Oct 21 Reply I've seen a number of very talented artists doing image stacking to create the perfect insect photos that are in focus throughout, although it is an impossible option when photographing moving insects. I will play around with this image more with all the great suggestions Oct 17th
54 Oct 21 Reply Peggy, Thanks for your suggestions. The face was pretty subtle! Oct 17th
54 Oct 21 Reply Maria, Thanks for applying your magic to the image. I like what you've created and I may push the face in the opposite direction, i.e. commiting to the dog face more, it's fun. I was going in the direction of creepy/surreal but like the playful look you've suggested. I am also interested in playing more with the brightness of the flower as I can see it may be too intense in this setting. Oct 12th
54 Oct 21 Reply Aavo, Yes the bee is essential to what I was trying. I added the dog face to try to fix the blurry aspects of the original. Do you have suggestions on how to fix the bees face? Oct 12th
54 Oct 21 Reply Alan, This image was about the bee. I agree sometimes you need to scrap the original plan. Since this image was mostly a project to see if I could salvage the bee I kept it. Oct 12th
54 Oct 21 Comment Alan, Another excellent thought provoking image. I like how you create simple images which evoke a mood. In this case I feel the isolation and despair inherent in a barron landscape. I find all the elements pleasing. There is one shaddow in the eery figure on the bottom right in which it appears the armpit shaddow is sharper than the rest, at least on my screen. I also wonder if the boat was moved more to the right if that might create more visual tension, but it may create imbalance with your shaddow figure. I might even take the boat out completely as the skeleton paired with the shaddow may be more compelling and fit the "less is more" Kaplan mantra. Oct 12th
54 Oct 21 Comment Maria, I like this image very much. You've done a beautiful job blending all the elements in a way that invites the viewer into this peaceful setting. Oct 12th
54 Oct 21 Comment Kathy, I really like what you've done here. I had a different take on it than Alan. I personally get annoyed when judges use rules to judge an image. I repeatedly get criticism when I have a bird flying out of the image. What if I want the bird to fly out of the image to say something? Your moon adds to the photo. I think the woman fits nicely in this image. I wondered if the dogs might benefit from a little more contrast or something as their brindle coat blends in with the grasses almost making them look transparent. Oct 7th
54 Oct 21 Comment Aavo, I like what you've done here. I see some significant improvement in your layering and handling of the edges. The man and the background feel balanced your handling of tone, contrast and hue. I agree with Alan you could tune up the edges more. The left jacket could easily be erased away with a layer mask or leave more of the jacket all the way to the edge. As it is now, it looks odd having a partial rhombic shape of shoulder free floating. I find the pink hues of the women's face a bit distracting and wonder if you desaturated or reduced vibrance it may better fit with the nostalgic theme. Oct 7th
54 Oct 21 Comment Peggy, A nice playful image. I looked at it before reading your description and wondered what it would look like with some color. I have a number of images like this that are fun to do for a specific event that aren't ones I want to spend time reworking. Should you feel the desire to play more with it, I would like to see color or a greater range of contrast particularly in the dark tones. Oct 7th
