After the simplicity of last month's bird image I like how you've taken this one into the more artistic realm. You've done a beautiful job with tonal range, color and proportions. I wonder if the "flame" might be handled to have more of a fire breathing dragon quality as now it looks more like a tongue. |

Jan, I really like this image. I submitted an image that has a similar vibe(August 2018). I think you've done a great job with this simple and powerful image. The choice to go B&W works. |

Tom, I like this image quite a bit as well. I like what Kathy has done with it too but find the green forehead creates an alien like look. I think there may be room for a compromise in which there is some more blending of the facial mask, particularly on the forehead without changing color as much. |

Henry, Your experimentations with flowers are certainly paying off. I like this image a lot and find the colors, composition, sharpness all very pleasing. I'm not as bothered by the lower flower but do understand the preference for simplicity. You should print this and hang it proudly on your wall. |

I agree with the consensus regardin this being fun and creative. I like your handling of the background. I agree the face and arms don't match color or brightness with the rest of the subject. This image also has a stuck on look. In my experience blending fur with backgrounds is brutal. I often will create a layer mask and put the brush on 30% and remove some of the edge to help it blend with the back ground more. |

Henry, Thanks for your feedback. I agree. Often I share images here that don't quite meet my standards for a successful image yet I post them here to see if there are additional learnings I can gain from sharing with this group. I have come to accept the process of taking chances and paring items that may or may not work ultimately yields growth even if the individual image fails. |

Kathy, This was more a tribute to my friend, who is wearing the red jacket. The white leaves looked like snow on the ground. Ash certainly is a depressing reminder of our fragile landscape. My feelings were more happy and it reminded me more of winter. |

I just wanted to add when I view this image as a smaller icon the head of the fish better pulls this together as an eye in a pleasing way. Viewing the full image on the large screen it is harder to appreciate. |

Alan, I like how you've weaved a tale with your title in this image. Having looked at the image and enjoyed the proportions and almost cartoon like playfullness of the find edge rendering, I had fun looking at each figure and appreciated your commentary on our distracted lives. Looking at it again I enjoy reconsidering the idea of distraction as not all distractions are bad. I had posted a photo titled "distracted" in April on Group 41, not my best work, but a similar idea. |

Tom, I love this image. Very strong on many levels. I especially like the image of you with your head bent forward as it captures a very strong mood and the tonal range of the black and white is exceptional. One minor suggestion, the shadows seem a bit off too me. You have symmetric shadows for the building and then one of your head that seems off in size relative to the angles and maybe too light relative to the dark shadow cast by the church. |

Kathy, You've done a great job crafting this image. I like your idea of creating an "Old guys" series. Although technically all the elements come together, I find the image a bit busy and find the background and the front of the spaceship confusing. |

I agree with Tom and Alan on the technical aspects but I am drawn to this image on its surrealists elements which are very provocative and well done. I know Tom wants you to share your interpretation but I enjoy how this leaves much to the viewer to interpret, just like a dream. |

Peggy, I love this exploration. If I have some time I may do a "Peggy" and rework it, if you don't mind. I think I'm with you on wondering if the "eyelashes" may be more of a distraction(assuming you are talking about the eyelashes "inside" the "eye". I personally would remove them. There is something about the handling of the fish that doesn't feel finished to me. There is a magical and beautiful quality to the original that is lost with the pinlight handling. I might play with a gentler more muted handling and abandon the need to make the fish serve as a pupil and head more in the surreal direction exploring having the fish swim inside this space, maybe adding some other element like a small child sitting at the edge of the upper "eyelid" dangling a fishing line or another smaller fish as this fish seems to have a purpose that is implied in it's movement. Ialso wonder if the fish is too big and might have more impact if you scaled it down and included more of its body. Just my two cents |

Tom, Thanks. It's fun to keep working on this. I felt very unhappy with the trees when I submitted it last month. This one is worth working on as it has a lot of potential. |

Peggy, I have to say your handling of this with the boat in the center is very appealing. I'm going to dig into my archive and see if I have another image without the prominent rock as it would be hard to clone out. Thanks! |

Aavo, I like how you go to the dark side. If I had more images of people on boats with stern expressions I would have used them. In some way I like how "innocent" and unaware they are moments away from a very bad outcome. |
