Lisa, Thanks. The purple color cast was conscious and came after cranking up the vibrance. I have a version without it too, I liked how it felt next to the rich green. |

Lisa, I think you win the award for your cow beautification process. This brings me back to my very early photoshop explorations when I had 10 images to work with, given the cost of scanning pre digital cameras. My first images were of cows. I spent months reworking cow images. Your image is stunning. I love the colors. |

Maryellen, Other than the minor issues with the selection noted above this comes together nicely. There is a wonderful movement and balance to this image. I like the framing elements as they add punch to this already compelling image. |

Kathy, I love the dream like quality you've spun here (pun intended). There is a both haunting a beautiful quality to this image. All the elements blend together nicely. |

Henry, You've done a great job with the composition, flower placement, colors and the handling of the foreground and background. I have nothing to add this month. |

Henry, Thank you for your kind words. I've been playing around with photoshop for 30 years. In the old days there were very few filters and I had to scan each image at a service bureau, which was expensive. Gradually new tools came along to play with images. Topaz is the first upgrade on filters I've had in over a decade and it is pretty powerful. Most images I do without filters and its just a bunch of playing with the image. I hope you are continuing to enjoy your explorations. |

Maryellen, It was other PSA members who shared their images with Topaz filters applied that sold me on it. I love having another tool in my tool box to help stimulate creativity |

Kathy, I haven't yet experimented with Topaz as a finishing step. So far it's been the beginning step to mix things up and get the creative juices flowing. |

Peggy, Thanks for visiting site 41 and for your comments. I've been moving more and more away from conventions. I liked the idea of backlighting the flower and liked how the stellate quality of the light reinforced that quality in the flower. Most of these discoveries come by accident (don't tell anyone) and I just go with it if it resonates. |

Peggy, Thanks. An excellent suggestion. It seems the consensus is to reduce the birds from the image, your option is a good one. |

I'm going to have to make you a T shirt that says "Less IS more"
I do believe Hopper and Magritte would be pleased with your image. |

Aavo, I agree with you and Alan regarding the number of birds. It is a bit busy. |

Both versions are exceptionally well done. I love so much about this image from the beautiful pastel tones to the sharply lit image of the mermaid's face/upper body. You've done an exceptionally good job rendering the body and tail. The way you made the texture from the jackfruit into her body is masterful. |

This is a fun image. I spent many years doing images swapping human parts on animals and vice versa, it never gets old. I like how you've handled the textures and colors as well. I imagine this to be the snake who corrupted Eve. |

Alan, Another super successful image. Reminds me of Edward Hopper and Magritte. I love the starkness and tension between the two men in the image. The simplicity of the image is also exceptionally well done. There are no distracting elements, everything has a purpose. |

Kathy, I really like what you've done with this one. The colors are so rich and the reds and blues in the clothing create a nice resonance with the fall colors. Clever use of a classic story revisited. |

Aavo, This is an interesting composition. I was also distracted by the jagged edge of the left leg. The yellow umbrella and partially exposed bottom creates an interesting tension but can understand Alan's concern. I think the boat works. |

Marilyn, Thanks for the suggestion. I will play with it some more. I can spend endless time moving objects and resizing to find what resonates best. One thing I like about this group is feedback. |

Alan, Thanks for your support. I did follow your principle "less is more" when it came to desaturating the flower color. Just leaving a little orange at the center started to create a story for me of birds in a nest. I did have a version with one bird but it wouldn't have made the 3 image requirement for this group! If the birds are flying back into the "nest" it would be a different story than leaving the nest (my oldest just went off to college and my other two are getting close). If you check out my post last month from my other group (group 41). I have a one bird composition in which the bird is flying into the flower, I think you will like that one. |
