Henry, I was looking at your image again and I started imagining what I would do with it if I had time on my hand. The blue background looks very much like water. If you feel like exploring a surrealist style you might try eliminating the petals and replace them with fish swirling around. I'm really enjoying seeing your technique evolve |

Maryellen, I'm jealous, a month in Mexico sounds amazing. It looks like you did a great job successfully creating this title slide. My only feedback is there appears to be some stray elements in the bottom left corner where some of the flowers are bleeding thru into the black background, a mildly distracting element. |

Lisa, This is a really fun, nicely lit and whimsical composition. The colors are very pleasing. I have nothing to add, well done |

Henry, I really like this composition. You have come a long way in your flower composites. The colors here are wonderful. Kathy makes some good points although I actually like the negative space you created in the bottom right and the "crowded" space below the tulip on the right compliments the placement of the petals below the tulip on the left. I like your composition as it is. |

Kathy, This is a wonderful departure. I like everything about it. The white background works really well with the red. The variation in sizes, shapes, positions and whimsical nature of the composite are very esthetically pleasing to my eye. Nice job! |

The original version only had the car on the top and a friend of mine flipped it over and told me it was as convincing upside down which made me happy |

Kathy, Thanks. I took a hike over the weekend up in Napa and Point Reyes and feel the creative juices flowing again. My post on group 54 is of Saturday night's sunset. |

Alan, Thanks for your reply and sorry to hear you had to type your reply on your iphone. Your explanation makes the picture make a lot more sense for me. My initial reaction was confusion. I also felt a bit taken aback by seeing the innocent child with the odd images of the naked animalistic woman and the serenading skeleton. Not all themes are meant to be nice and happy. This also reminds me of how impatient I have become. I didn't take the time to ponder your image more. In retrospect I would leave it as is. It reminds me of a series I did years ago. While in medical school, I painted a series of skulls in pastel. I hung them on the wall, Andy Warhol like. They were very playful, yet, most people reacted to the fact that they were skulls and couldn't see the beauty in the artistry |

Peggy, It's a good start. I don't think you need the brush to tie it in. I like the idea of having it on the dented part of the can. I would go darker and more contrasty to make the colors pop more |

Peggy, I really like the colors here. I feel like the bird is too muted/low contrast. I wonder if you were to just get rid of the brush and find a bird that is much darker/more contrasty. I think a rich black may counterbalance the muted colors and serve as a visual focal point |

Alan, I feel like you've succeeded in communicating your vision. I really like how you've played with the idea of the pawns turning into queens. The proportions feel pleasing. The choice of the photos hanging on the walls are a little distracting to my eye. This image feels very Magritte like. As such, I suspect he would have simplified the image more. I wonder if you might change the floor to something reinforcing the chess board and maybe developing the theme of the child being a pawn in some way, just a thought. |

Betty, I find this image challenging, in a good way. The swirling of the flower and the unclear circular background are interesting. This feels like a cover for a psychedelic album from another era. |

Aavo, I'm with Alan on this one. The Silhouette of the young lady would be stronger if her proportions were more normal and maybe not as closely cropped. I really like how you've used her head to encase the cave and the other figures. The granular background to the right doesn't add much for me so I might suggest playing around with other backgrounds |

Aavo, Thanks for your feedback. The red light lines were created by a tripod exposure of moving cars. Sorry it is confusing. The camera picked up what it saw. I might consider just removing the stray ones. |

Peggy, Thanks for the feedback as well. The light trails were just created by the lights on the back of a truck or something bigger than a car. I feel like the red line parallels the direction of the upside down car so I am not as bothered but I agree moving the upside down car to the left may balance the image more. |

Alan, Thanks for the feedback. I originally placed the car so as to be lined up with the cloud "road". Since it is a pretty broad swatch of cloud, I think I can still move it to the left some to balance the photo. |
