Kathy, Not sure exactly how to answer your question. Often with photos like this I start with one image, in this case the beach scene. I really liked the feel of it but not the color. After a few different adjustments I started to feel good about the sky but liked the bluer hue of the water. I then decided to split them up and I liked the feel. I try not to use my intellect too much with these decisions, rather see how it makes me feel. I tried many different positions and sizes for the surfer. He initially was in the Milky way but thought it balanced the photo better when I placed him on the left side. After I moved him to where the planet was he seemed a little off in position. Since this is clearly not real I took the liberty of moving Venus to where I wanted it (or is that Mars?). I have another surfer image I posted on my other site, group 54. A similar process was done there in that case I blended three images and played with the rays of light being the energy source. |

Henry, Those are actually snow flakes from the original photo, I thought they helped it integrate him into the scenery. |

This is beautifully lit and crafted. A series of these transformations would make for a wonderful art gallery show. Wonderful detail and restraint. |

Henry, This is a successful transformation of the original which has a beautiful abstract quality. I wonder if adding some black accents might give a boost to the contrast and make the colors even more vibrant. |

Sue this is a wonderful holiday image. In order to focus the attention on the cat, pot, skeleton and tomb stone I wonder if you could use some darkening or blurring of some of the back ground elements as it is a very busy image. |

Kathy I like how the glow filter adds a movement energy to this image. I don't have much to add this time. Nice job. |

Kurt, Thanks for your thoughts. It does seem like a tighter crop would make the surfing theme more powerful but would likely reduce the Japanese esthetic with the dark hill and generous sunset portion. It is often challenging to juggle different priorities. |

This is beautiful. I love the way the leaves curve and fill the sphere . Nice work. How do you transform into a ball? I've played a little with sphere transformations in photoshop but this seems to have more depth. |

Phillipa, Ok, maybe I should say he is a cloud surfer as the light is very subtle. The streaming light thru the trees drew my eye and it felt like having his surf board slide off that streak might work. You might check out my image on my other site 41 which has the same surfer under different circumstances. |

Phillipa, This is a very interesting image and an even more interesting process. I like the colors of original 3, made me wonder if you might play with the colors more as the red brown image is more subdued. I sometimes create two layers in photoshop and then blend part of them rendering a novel combination of my favorites. It works as is, just a thought. |

Peggy, Thanks. I found this surfer in Munich in Spring a few years ago. There is a river in a park where people surf. It was amazing as it was snowing and they were surfing wearing wet suits in the middle of a park. Something I'd never seen before. |

Aavo, Since the surfer is riding the ray of light it wouldn't work with the idea that inspired the image but I will play around with it some more to see if it may create a different message. Thanks. |

What a fun and interesting image. You did a great job with your first night shoot. You nailed the milky way, too bad it didn't fit into this image (I suspect you will find another use for it). My only suggestion might be to play with the size of the orb as it feels a little big for my taste (but that's a personal thing). I like how it is not a perfect rectangle, the bent edges add to the surreal quality of the image. |

Alan, This is a very nice composition. As always, your attention to the details make this a successfully executed image. My only suggestion is given the strong symmetry, a slightly off center subject with maybe a larger amount of foreground might create some novelty |

Aavo, I really like what you've done with your image this month. The colors are outstanding and very beautiful. I love your handling of the reptiles eye. I find the use of the bird twice in this powerful image distracting. I don't know what to suggest at present but a different handling of the moon would be worth some consideration. Nice job! |
