Carolyn, I love the colors. I may have to buy those Topaz plug ins after seeing the nice effects you've created. These remind me of the magical futuristic cityscape in Singapore featured in Planet Earth 2. I like both versions although I kind of like the second version as it has a little nicer color balance to me. I think this is a personal taste issue though. |

Thanks for the suggestions. This was a hard one to decide how much restraint to have. Since it is essentially a sunset picture too much contrast would make it look less "real" defeating my goal of "almost real" In reality the foreground in the original sunset picture is nearly black as that's the "reality" of taking sunset pictures. The middle waterfall was added on last. I'll play around with taking out the Yosemite waterfall to see if it adds or detracts. |

I really like the fog at the edges. Hearing about the process whereby you take this fungus into a jewel like substance is fun. It is an interesting image but I find it hard to engage with as there isn't a message or a flow. |

I like how this image is very clean and is beautifully symmetric. Reminds me of fractals. I wonder if experimenting with adding additional color may make for a more visually powerful image. |

Peggy, These are both great suggestions. I really like the framing idea you've added. You've given me hope that I might be able to resurrect this image after all. Now I just have to find more time! |

Peggy, Sorry I was out of the country and didn't see your post. I love how there is geometric repetition of the forms from the shape of the grid, feathers and wings. Your handling of sharpness and out of focus is beautiful. |

Aavo, Thanks. I already stretched the bottom light rays as much as I felt I could without them looking funny. I'll give it a try another time when I can muster the enthusiasm to work on this one again. Yes, I do want to do something else with the raindrop photo at some point. |

Thanks Alan. I do like my drop picture. You are right sometimes it's best to not try too hard. I shared this composition as I'm pushing my comfort zone with the three image blends. I usually do better with a simpler combination of two images but am enjoying learning from the experience. |

I took your advice and reworked it without the drops. Not my best image but certainly a good exercise in fixing problems |

Alan, I like Phillipa's suggestions. The guy walking into the book would be a very interesting way to tie this in. If you were able to tilt the outdoor cafe such that the railroad line was on the same plane(i.e. having the horizon be the same) it would blend much more powerfully, or maybe consider extending the railroad tracks into the book as the ground under the cafe tables. Ultimately these symbols are wonderful to play with, keep at it. |

Aavo, Don't be hard on yourself. Without the effort to push our boundaries we don't grow. My image this month is problematic and I shared it, rather than one of my better ones, to try and learn from the group. I have accepted some pictures are just not fixable in their current state. Sometimes after putting them aside for awhile I'll find a solution I hadn't thought of. |

Thanks Phillipa. The irony is I normally only use 2 images and tried to use three for this group. When I tried to remove the drops, which I felt didn't fit with the final image, the version I saved just didn't allow me to remove the drops without leaving unfilled areas of the image which just didn't look very good. It would take a lot of work to recreate the hues and lighting I had created in this image. I also had a hard time letting go of the combo of the rays of light and the drops as combining those were the inspiration for the original image, but I agree they just don't fit well together when you step back from it. Thanks for your input. Brad |

I like this image a lot. I have many versions of images on my desktop too and it can be hard to let go of an idea, or at least put it on hold. This image is the strongest, but I like the others too. I wonder if the cat in the right foreground is necessary for the image although I think this is likely a matter of personal taste. I also could see a 5th more sinister version of this image with a darker colloseum lit by these lanterns, that darker image might sell the black cats more. |

This is a beautiful blending of images. I love how "smiling" is prominently placed yet subtle. There is one dark black dot on the left side that is darker than all the others. Not sure if this is intentional but it did distract my eye for a moment, other than that I have nothing to add, well done. |

I like the idea of this image but feel the rainbow doesn't look real as you have it going behind some trees and in front of others. I also would try to feather the edges more, as it looks too stuck on as it currently is. I also might try to zoom in on the tree and use a layer mask to more accurately blend the edges of the rainbow with the tree. Did you try enlarging it as a smart object? |
