A very dramatic image and my eye goes straight to the hay bale. Black & white makes this more compelling and the darkened sky you can feel a storm approaching. I might have cropped a tad from the right so not to put the hay bale dead center but apart from that it is a lovely image. |

Thanks Melissa and yes the original was just a photo but I knew I had something there with the subject so black & white I could work with. The 'X' makes the drama too…it was just part of the patio design I think. |

Love this image and has a 'cuteness' about it. Dandelions are a survivor and this image is a true test to their abundance! Very nicely done with the viewpoint and the vertical border adds great texture. I like how you have bought up the textures in the concrete. You have inspired me to look down at the pavements now to see what i can find! |

I too think of a lone tree as negative space like my previous submission from New Zealand. But this one with the inclusion of the gravestones gives pause for thought and evokes an emotional viewpoint. It looks as if the wind was blowing through the tree giving it an almost peaceful salute to the fallen. Very nicely done. |

Thanks Carole and yes I think your version is much better as there was too much light so now you can focus a bit more on the subject. |

Welcome Melissa to our group and look forward to seeing your lovely photos! This one is very eye catching and tells a story albeit sad. Looks great in black & white as you have so many different tones and textures. It also helps add drama to the image I feel. Cropped just right too. |

To me this is a lovely nature story and a nice flow from one bird to the other. Nicely cropped too. I agree with the others re the green background and think somewhere between Mike's Edit and yours would make the image more pleasing. |

An attractive bird and a great pose. The sharp eye drawing me in and the open beak i can almost hear him calling. I like how the texture of the feathers mimick the hazy background which could like Mike & Polly have said be darkened a tad. What time of day did you shoot this? |

Thanks Polly and agree with darkening the background. I too like the motion of the wings but room for improvement on the next one once summer begins! |

In Colorado I have never seen a Rufus so this was nice to see. I like its pose on the leaf and with its wings spread almost mimicking the shape of the leaves. Agree about the background needed to be darker and I like Sharon's view. |

You have created a very nice artistic image from the original. I like how the background is completely black so not competing with the flower and mimicking the shadow on the leaf. To me it feels that the flower is looking in a mirror.
Very nicely done. |

We are meant to be in Tanzania now but our camp got flooded so we are now going in October so glad you escaped the floods they had there! Great capture of the Topi and the lighting depicts the color tonality very well. Have seen a lot of Topis on our safaris but mainly on termite mounds so I really like the motion on this one. I would agree with the others on the Pano crop and less space in front. |

Thanks and agree the background needs attention. The white spots did bother me too. |

Thanks Mike. I like what you have done to the background as this did need improvement. To me the wing motion added to the photo but maybe I could have had less of it and used a higher shutter speed. Will know next time it comes around this summer! |
