Thanks Carole for your kind words. In the summer we get lots of Hummingbirds in Colorado and i always try and choose plants for my tubs on the deck that they will like! I was lucky with this one. |

I was just talking to a friend about Bosque del Apache. She goes there and says it is amazing to see so many migatory birds. A beautiful pose and actually i would also like to see a vertical crop of the whole of the Sandhill Crane. The feathers and the colouring are wonderful so this might be an interesting perspective? What time of day was it and what was your ISO? In what application did you add the texture to the background? I am just beginning to learn how to use the background filter in LR!. |

I like the expression on this bird it looks as if he is weathering the cold begrudgingly! Nice soft yellow color which blends with the background. Agree with Chane that the belly looks a bit soft. I like the branches with the icicles and might crop down slightly from the top. |

Great pose! I like how his feet are hanging on to the icy branch. Nice composition how the branches are arranged and the icicles add texture to this wintry image. Think Carole has done a nice job of lightening the Cardinal. |

What a great capture of the Cardinal. I like the contrast of the snow the green of the hanger and the red of the bird against the white background, works really well. The only distraction for me is the slight black shape on the right side so might see if i could clone that out. Otherwise i like the other bird as tells the story and looks so disinterested in the Cardinal! I think what Carole says about the snow being brighter would be good. I had to do that to an image of my chipmunk in the snow and it made a difference. |

Thanks Chane. Your crop is really nice thank you. I think i was thinking that the 'protocol' was not to chop the top off the flower but in your case it works! |

Thanks Fran. If i can i prefer higher shutter speed to higher ISO and these Hummingbirds are very fickle and move so quickly! I think i had the setting on Auto ISO this time so it was a perfect match! |

Thanks Connie and looking at it again you are right the image is a bit small. Think i was trying just to get one flower and the bird. Next time i will have to move closer! |

You have certainly captured this bird well in a winter scene. I like how you can see the snow falling. I think the colours of the bird and the background with log compliment each other. You could always make the background darker (vignette) perhaps if you wanted to make the bird stand out more? But for me in this capture i think it is fine. I agree with Fran's crop to add more balance. |

The scene definitely depicts a bleak winter with those hardy sparrows. I like the diffused background making the bark of the trees and birds stand out. Position of the birds gets you wondering what they are looking at? Probably might have cropped closer in especially on the LHS to make it a tighter image. |

I like the eye level shot and the position of the bird stretching his feathers adds interest and shows the tonality of the harrier. For me the background is too similar to the harrier so perhaps a slight dehaze or a vignette might improve it? |

This is a really nice action shot of the Swan and you can feel the momentum as the swan takes off. Great detail throughout. Good job of sharpening at the high ISO. What makes the image for me is the light especially on the water and the refelction of the swan. Agree that if the swan was more turned towards you it would be a stronger image but in this instance nature still gave you a good shot. |

A mighty river flow for sure and against the backdrop of the stark trees it gives a great depiction of winter. You can feel the power of the water and i like the different channels it creates. I think your crop of just having a bit of trees in gives it perspective. Not sure if it is my computer but i see a bit of noise in the water and on the rocks...did you consider sharpening in Topaz? Could be my screen! |

The light is great in this image both on the waves and the Willet. I like how you have chosen the vertical crop which works well with the action of the bird. I think Sharon has shown also a further enhancement and i would agree with cropping down from the top. Nice image. |

What a lovely sign of Spring which i think we all look forward to now! Compositionally this works really well as a square image and the diagonal branch complements this. I like the formation of the flowers and the buds in their different positions. My suggestions would also be to slightly lower the whites. |

Great interaction between the 2 hummingbirds. The detail and the colour of the birds are wonderful. I also like how it was hand held in natural light with the angle looking up at them. For me i might have cropped up a bit from the bottom or were you wanting the birds on a powerpoint?? Great image and look forward to seeing more from your Costa Rica trip! |
