Thanks all for your helpful comment. I was interested is seeing how a old analog photo would hold up in digital form and to try out the idea of puting a small figure next to a large landdscape to creat a sense of vastness. I was generally please with the results. I used onOne software for the masking. It is much easier and more intuitive that photoshop and much less expensive. I recommend it to anyone who wants to add things to or combine photos. |

Great street photo Gary. The back and white image really does help to put the focus on your subject. You have an interesting leading line in you photo, but it leads away from your subject to guy walking out the door. Oliver's solution was to clone the guy out. My recommendation would be a tighter crop on the left and maybe a little off the top. What is left is a great candid capture of a hungy woman with a dietary conflict. |

The converging parallels create a great sense of depth. It almost looks like there is something or someone where the tree lines converge that draw the viewer in to the photo.
Snow photos are always a challenge. You have a little exposure burn out resulting in some loss of tree shadow, but more importantly, I think, the loss of that little highligh where the tree lines converge. Some minor exposure adjusts would make this an ever better photo. Oliver's example is on the right track although there is a bit too much tree shadow for my taste. A great shot, now just make it perfect. |

There is a lot to look at in this photo. It has a nice story. There is just enough lack of focus in the background to bring the viewer back to the main subjects. I think that is amazing feat. I also like the way you managed to get a little of what the artist was working on into the photo. Gary's fix works well. Well done! |

A classic landscape photo LuAnn. It is well composed and provides a great feeling of depth. I enjoy the soft peaceful mood it project. Increaing the shapness and clarity of the background would create incongruency with lower contrast you would find on a cloudy day. It's even more apparent in the original color version. You might even consider trying to make the forground ever sharper to accentuate the difference, although it works fine as is. You might consider bringing up the small sun filled area on the lower left side. It got a little lost in the transition from the original. Dead branch reduction might not be a bad idea. Over all a great job. |

A great people shot Oliver. This before and after really makes a strong case for monochome. It is the best way to deal with all of the clashing and distracting colors and get the viewer to concentrate on the subject. Did you ask him to pose? I wonder if he would have been willing to remove his glasses. Although you did a pretty good job with the glare, it still a bit of a distraction. I think clear, sharp, focused eyes are the key to people photos; animal photos too; but of course, they don't usually wear glasses, so no problem there. |
