This is quite a funny shot of the bull behind this lady on her cell phone! I get the feeling she would be oblivious to the fact that a bull was behind her even if it were a real bull! I like the closeness of the shot showing the concentration in her face and I also like the quality of the light. Good candid photo! |

I really enjoy the "busy-ness" of the image in contrast with the clerk trying to keep busy in his solitude! The good humor cones leaning right and the clerk leaning left I also find playful! The photo certainly brings out the fact that this place and clerk have more character than your modern 7-11 or Speedway! My thought about cropping would be instead of a square format, crop in a rectangle, to keep as much of the environment, cut out the lights, and still keep the man as the focal point. Very nice environmental portrait! |

I am amazed at this young rider and the cowboy who looks so calm with this tiny child on his lap! I see the child as the focal point, and like the angle that the shot was taken. I feel the picture is well exposed and I like the detail in the foreground and background. I believe that the horse's head in the middle of the picture with the steers lined up help to tell the story, not of a dad out on a leisurely ride with his daughter, but of the horse and rider with a small child actually corraling a bunch of steers, which really does create tension! |

I feel that this works well as an environmental portrait, showing the final product as well as his work area. I especially like the fact that the tones are similar in his face and the book, both showing a leathery feel! I believe that the shadows in the table area could be lightened to show more details in the utensils and even some of the highlights in the hat could be lightened as well. Also, if the contents in the trailer add to the overall context of the portrait they could be lightened; if not, I would agree with cropping out some of the background like Jim suggested. |

I feel this image really pops as a black and white; I especially love the shapes and lines that draw my eye right to the man. I also like the way the white in the bus sets off the man in black. I also agree with everyone about cropping out the woman, and I would go so far as to also retouch the black spot at the left side, too. Overall I believe it's a very dynamic street scene. |

I feel this is a very impactful environmental image, showing not only the ritual of tea time but also the utensils used, the stove, pots, etc. I believe those details definitely add to the scene as the viewer gets a full picture of everything tea time entails. I think the monochromatic color scheme works very well to highlight the participants and the various textures in the piece. While I do agree the man on the right could have been looking into the scene, I feel he adds to the overall composition of the piece, sitting comfortably and even giving a sense that this wasn't an "intimate" area as something else must have gotten his attention! |
