Thank you all for your comments, all have been considered. I think Palli's rendition takes away from the softness and overemphasizes impurities in the statue. I played with Gary's suggestion of processing the image in color, but do not like the tones in the statue. Overall I agree that the background could benefit from some tweaking, as well as the statute might benefit from some selective contrast adjustments. In general however I enjoy the softness and background brightness of the image. It looks fabulous printed on metallic. |

Hi Palli,
I like your image, its size makes it easy to see it on my monitor. The shot was taken with overcast and it gives it a great "Sunday afternoon at the dock mood". The original IR has a nice softness in the thick clouds, which I think got lost with the Detail Extractor. Overall, I think it is a nice image.

Hi Gary,
The subject it great. I like your use in manipulating the frame of the image, and the foreground well handled. The sky is a hint to dark for my taste, as it produces a halo around the clouds.

Hi Melanie,
This is a lovely image. You captured the scene nicely, I like the way it is laid out. The tones in it are done nicely. Because your image only 725 x 457 it makes it hard to see finer details, but I did notice some over sharpening between the rock formation and the sky.

Hi Jack,
I really like your image nice shot of the Palouse. I tried to play with it a bit however the size of 640 x 427 made it difficult.
I like the 2/3 approach for the placement of the horizon, which I think should be made a bit more prominent. I worked thru the image applying 2 graduating filters both starting/ending at the horizon toning down the brightness of the clouds and the field. I spot burned a few of the clouds and the shadows a little bit, the left corner of the image and up along the left side of the road, and I dodged the road. My approached to me balanced the contrasts a little better.

Hi Ernie,
This is an interesting image. At first glance the lighthouse is the star, at second glance it is the rock formation in the foreground. I am typically not a fan of cropping, however to make the lighthouse the star much of the foreground would need to be cropped away. Cropping would bring out the tones of the sky, structure and some of the rocks nicely, and reduce the over sharpening effect on top of the rock.
If the foreground is the star, I would reprocess the image and try to bring out the various tones of the foreground that are available in the HDR file and lighten the sky and lighthouse with a graduated filter.
