It is very likely that moving your focus to infinity will lead to a fuzzy shot as counter intuitive as that seems. To find the sharp focus at infinity, you need to focus on something at least 50 feet or more away. The infinity mark on camara lens does not always correspond to the camara body sensor. For a scene like this, which looks like it was at the pulloff, I try focusing at f11 to f14 about 40 or 60 feet away from me. I agree with Larry the PhotoPills app gives a simple DOF finder. The rest of the app is complex, arguably not intuitive, but an extremely powerful app once you know how to use it. |

To me this is a very well composed and processed image. My eyes follow the vehicle light trails which leads to the starry sky. There is just enough detail in the shadows to avoid being a blocked black foreground. I like that the horizon is lighter and then moves to the darker top of the image which keeps my eye in the image. Nicely done |

Thanks everyone for your comments. I did vignette the image and lighten parts of it, but your eyes raise my awareness. Cropping up from the bottom makes sense. This scene was in the middle of some ugly surroundings so I tried to crop that out and keep as much of the detail as possible. |

This is the least hazy day I have seen in the six years I have been there so you did the best you could. I agree with Arne that the mountains are soft and lake a bit too saturated blue. If you have Topaz Sharpen AI, it works wonders on scenes like this. I think your R6 in IBIS plus your lens would too so 1/40 is not far off. F18 should give you plenty of DOF but your hyperfocal point may have been off so the mountains may be out of focus rather than soft from camera movement because the trees in the foreground appear sharp. If it were a shutter speed issue, they would be blurred as well. I think your composition is good to capture the sense of place. |

Nicely processed to bring out the color and the texture of the water and mountains. I think your choice of cropping up slightly from the bottom works well. You have the boat heading into the image which also works well. My eye was distracted by the small amount of snow on both of the mountains and the white house which appear to be almost blown out. However, the snow was there and part of the story. Maker's choice about that. |

"On a dark and stormy night...." I think others captured some of the great things about this image. The color palette is great. The perspective of the castle is very pleasing to me eye. The hint of color in the grass is well done. To follow up on Larry's point, I think you could improve the composition by cropping in a bit from the left. The turret of the castle would then balance the tree better. To be a bit anal, the highlights from the direction of the light vary. The turret is front lite and the side with light from the right side. You could chalk it up to artistic license. It is an incredible image. |

I love the composition and story. You are a brave person. I like the balance of the grasses on the left offsetting the trees on the right and the tree line keeping my eye initially in the lake. Slightly lowering the saturation seems a good decision too. To my eye it appears you selected and darkened the sky. The portion of the sky behind the trees is lighter than the open sky and the reflection in the water is brighter than the sky. It should be around one stop less bright than the sky so you may want to darken the reflection in the water as well. |
