Thanks Peter,
I did go back and darken the hand on the cell phone image and it does look better. Unfortunately, the image on the cell phone is of buildings, not the rose. |

Great colors and sharp. For me, the bright areas on the large green leaf takes some attention away from the red flower. I'd consider darkening it so that it plays more of a background role. I also think that a crop from the right, up to but not including the red flower at the bottom, could help focus attention on the flower on the left.

I like the colors of the bug and how they are complemented by the flowers and the branch. I agree with comments above on highlights and cropping. Its hard to do a good macro head on because depth of field is so shallow. You did a good job of getting the head, legs and antenna in focus under those circumstances. There is something unusual to my eye in the out of focus background. Instead of simply being blurred, I see a bright halo - especially around some of the flowers. I can't recall seeing that in other macro images. |

I like the composition, and the mood created by the high contrast monochrome "low key" toning. I even like that the horizon isn't level. |

I love the colors and the blur, and the star bursts from all the lights, especially the blue ones under the bridge, and the "ghost" effect that lets you see buildings and lights behind the train. I'm with Peter on cropping and the distracting building on the left. Could cloning or selective brightness reduction help? |

I think the colors in the image work well together, and I like how the brightness covers the range from white to black. However, I'm having trouble finding elements which hold my eye in the picture. I applaud you for trying something different - I need to do more of that myself. |

I like the repeating light/dark shadow pattern, which is mimicked in the fine lines in the leaf. The yellow/green almost monochromatic colors also work well. I wonder what it would look like if the negative space at the top of the image was cropped, perhaps eliminating the first shadow, and then perhaps cropping a little from the right. I think that might emphasize the repeating pattern of light/dark which is at the core of this image's appeal.
I've always liked "graphic arts" images. A local photographer/high school teacher who came to photography through graphic arts has done a series called Stuccoland, https://johnnykerr.com/stuccoland/ which you may enjoy. |
