Just heard from John Hackett. I send them to him for posting. My first one will be in the March round. |

Thanks Joe - I tried to post an image, but can't find where to do it? Is Feb. closed? If not, can you point me to where on the website to go? |

Nothing much to add here. I think the monochrome works well, and the soft focus on the petals serves to emphasize the sharper focus and detail in the center. The focus and brightness difference draws your eye to the center of the flower, where all the detail is. As a result, I didn't even notice the lower right gray area until I read some of the other comments. Curious - how do you do your monochrome conversions? |

Very nice. I wonder what it would look like if there was a little less of the foreground, and the brightness balance between foreground and mid/background was changed to emphasize the rolling terrain and shadows. |

Great shot. Not much to add here. I wonder what it would look like if the sky and highlights around the outside of the bridge were darkened, and the shadows at the end of the tunnel brightened a bit so you can see a little more detail in the bridge interior. My eye keeps wanting to go to the sky when it should go to the "light at the end of the tunnel". |

I wonder what it would look like cropped tighter. Cut off top and bottom and/or darken to drive more focus to the cross with two poppies at the base and the phrase "in remembrance". |

Beautiful capture. Only two things I'd like to see - and I'm not sure they would be improvements. The flower is much brighter than the bird - my eye keeps going to it when it should go to the bird. I wonder how it would look if the flower wasn't quite so bright and perhaps the bird a little brighter. Also - I wonder what the picture would look like if the background weren't quite so blurred. I know the gold standard has the bird in sharp focus with a creamy smooth background - and this image shows that in spades - but I wonder whether a less blurred background would give a better sense of place - that this photo was taken in the wild and not somehow staged. Again - beautiful image. Congratulations. |
