Thanks Julie. I am always drawn to people with their expresses, boy language. I found it's fascinating when I am able to capture a moment that can tie people, things together to tell a story. |

Hi Bob. I didn't pan the camera to get the photo. I just slowed the shutter speed. The two girls are kept moving even they were just sitting, which the slow shutter really didn't help. I probably should taking two photos, with one that two girls are perfectly still. That would have better outcome. However, first I like taking documentary-type of photos; second of all, I really enjoyed taking my time on getting this moment. Thanks for the cropping suggestion, I'll play with cropping a bit more. |

Thanks Oliver. Lately I'm more and more started thinking what I want and willing to take more time on my vision. I like to be able to tell a story in my photo. |

I totally agree with you on the tonality, does look quite flat. I'll try to work on that. Thanks LuAnn. |

Very attractive photos of the people and their expressions. I don't have issue with the blur face on the left, with your original crop, it's more balanced than Oliver's version (IMO).
I read your setting and saw you were using f/1.8. It's a bit too shallow DOF for a group of 4. The candles in front of them gave so much good lighting, you don't need f/1.8.
If it's for me, I'll get more DOF to get more clear focus on them, deal with higher ISO with software. The old lady is quite soft, which I feel she could have drawn more attention from the eyes if she's sharp. She should be the focus point of the image.
Just my 2 cents. |

Bob, I really like the effect. You've turned an ordinary busy photo into an art. I do like your second version of the editing in the comment session better.
I keep hearing people using Topaz and I really want to check it out. Just not very happy buying so many different editing software though, lol. |

Hi Gary. I like the color and the mood that you created here. Typically I like a pure B/W for butterfly but I like your version too. I also like how the flower goes in the same direction, really bring eyes to the butterfly here too.
I do find the leaves on the right is a bit distracting. I did some cropping here. |

Beautiful portrait Julie! I like both color and B/W version. My only suggestion is to darken the back of the chair (top part) to avoid distraction. |

A lot of good discussion above! I like how the B&W being processed, rang of tune are very appealing. I don't quite feel the chaos & disorder from your photo, even with the people on the left. Only feeling I have was I'm not sure what I'm looking at.
I feel the need to crop for the comfort of my eyes, totally not going with your chao/disorder theme though. At least I feel there is a little conversation going on in the small crowd. |

Oliver, this picture give me a chill down the spine! Those eyes... I feel the face is a bit too bright. in my version, I darkened the overall, but kept the eyes and a bit under the eyes un-darkend. Personally I feel a bit more mysterious this way. |
