I think every body agree that art is a matter of taste. I just love the original image. I have been long a fan of Nik Collection filters but never realize of 'solarization' until Jan Handman mentioned it. I did my own experiment by darkening the vein xylem with luminosity mask and apply a bit of gold rim to the leaves. Thanks Gunter for sharing you original for us to have fun.

Hi Steve, one thing that I appreciate. This image inspires me. It makes my brain works. What I would do if I have the same originals. First, I would make the 'captain cook' (original 1) look symmetry. Second, I would re-make the Steampunk (original 2) like it was made of stone as original 1. Third, I will set sunset sky and omit the Uncle Sam. |

Angela, thanks for your kind words. I got this idea after coming back from Bali. Look how this young boy create water reflection from the temple. Actually, there is no water there. Hundreds of visitors willing to wait for hours to get this kind of pictures for their Instagram. |

Hi Kirk, thanks for introducing Benedictine Monastery of Christ in the desert. Awesome place. You did not mentioned your camera setting but the DOF and the sunburst suggest me that you have small opening aperture. This is a matter of preference. I might want to tune the overall saturation a bit. I agree with Kate, Pierre and Geoff, it's indeed a nice shot. |

Hi Geoff, your image remind of my favorite Australian photographer Mieke Boynton. I attended her on-line presentation for my local photography club. She has collections of awesome aerial photography images. One of her slides was - What makes an abstract aerial photo special? Her answer was Composition, Balance, Shape, Texture, Pattern, Color and Symbolism/Metaphor. I really appreciate your efforts to get this image. Do you mind to tell us how much is the cost for one trip? |

Hi Terina. I have the same set of Sigma lens and quiet familiar with its character. I also have the same approach of editing with NIK Collection and apply a bit of Gaussian blur outside of my main subject. I just appreciate how you maintain sharpness of the walker and the flock of birds. I wonder if you apply a bit of vignette to draw your viewer eyes to this main subject.
My only suggestion is to blur out the middle ground grass as it keeps pulling my eyes attention. It's sharpness competing with our main subject. |

Hi Kate. I just love the color and the mood of this image. My eyes were looking for the subject of this image. In image analysis they call it fixation points. To me, in this case, it would be the wave at the center of the image. I would normally sharpen this part a bit for more pleasant viewing. |

Hi Pierre. What an awesome idea. I never think of cropping it this way. At a glance the bright part and it's reflection form a unique 'scissor' like image. I believe this would attract travel image jury eyes and at least give 'accept' score to this image. Thanks Pierre. |

Thanks for your kind words. I did not apply Gaussian Blur. Canon Micro Lens gives soft bokeh. I have another brand that is not as soft as Canon Macro lens. I agree with you, I should have darken the stem behind the butterfly. |

I agree with Ginny and Dan for composition, colors and fine details. Again, it's a matter of taste. My preference is always partially desaturate and apply a bit of gaussian blur to the part out my main elements to make my subjects become more outstanding. It's a perfect shot David. |

Wow. Nice background and perfect composition. I agree with Ginny. The ultimate interest in animal pictures is the creature eyes. I would normally brightened the eye (in photoshop) by setting a curve layer with screen mode. In this case, I would 'draw' a bit of white eye lid for the bird. Nice shot Dan! |

Hi Julie, I think you capture this image in the right time and at the right exposure. You get all the fine details. I agree with you, the eyes and the claws with its spikes are the main object of this image. I would normally unsharp and desaturate other part to make main subject look more outstanding. |
