Hi Judy, This image looks simple but rich in lines, shapes, triangles, textures and subtle color differences. In theory, this would be a good image for conversion from Color to BW.
I have tried to do that but was not really successful. The image has lost some of critical quality pixels. You might want to try to convert from Color to BW before you do the cropping. I wonder if that would make a difference. Thanks for sharing this image with us. |

You asked us if you overdid the saturation. My Answer is no, you just have done it right. My only suggestion would be partial dodging and burning to make it more dimensional. Nice shot Kathryn. |

San, you just make me completely speechless. I have been to Mackinaw Island. But not this place. I would love to hear you would get Gold Medal for this Nature Category image. But I guess you have to crop the building on the right that is honestly adding story to me. Do you mind to share the location of this place in the map? Thanks San. |

Hi Todd, I am now attending PSA class Creating images for PSA Competition, Lesson 2 Converting Color to BW. My mentor is a Senior PSA photographer from Australia - Mr. Roy Killen. He has a good article about converting Color to BW. If you are interested click his link https://www.roykillen.com/monochrome.html
Your image is a perfect example for my class. You have done a great job of converting from Original 2 (Color) to Original (BW). You desaturate the foreground color in order to add depth.
IMHO, I prefer your original 1 (BW) but increase the brightness of the foreground shadows, midtones and highlights (separately) to create more depth. Pratik Naik the inventor of Infinite Black And White Panel used three separate curve adjustment layers (independently) for shadows, midtones and highlights. Please refer to his link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx5NB-E2G5s
Thanks for sharing this image with us.

Hi Pierre,
The sun, the rays, the tree shadows (on the frozen pond) with perfect lighting and perfect color harmony brought significant impact to me. My eyes are then traveling to find other interest areas but soon wanting to come back to these impactful elements. IMHO, this image would be stronger if cropped in portrait. I really appreciate your time and endeavor for this shot. |

Hi Lamar, I have been to Sausalito several times but have not seen this angle. I love this angel and its composition. Like Judy's suggestion, I would crop the left side a bit to allow sense of watercraft movement from left to right. Nice Capture Lamar. |

Hi Judy, I have the same comments as you. By the way you mentioned about 'Gigapixel' to retain image quality. Is it a kind of application? Thank you. |

Hi Beverly, Thanks for your comments. I have been a while in this Group 70 but rarely explore other group activities. I saw your images in Group 48 and 80. You inspired me for joining another group for another genre. |

I normally use Luminar only for Sky Replacement. Now no more since PS has more versatile Sky Replacement tool. Let me try Luminar AI for this kind of alignment. Thanks for your suggestion Judy. |
