Hi Kathryn. You must have been successful if your main objective is to show 'the smooth flow of the falls and the details of the black shale of the surrounding rock'.
Composition wise, as a viewer, my eyes are curious what is above and underneath of the fall. In many cases, I used stitch or panorama techniques. |

Thanks for all your comments. As a matter of fact, I have also prepared the B&W version of this image with glowing lamp post. Any opinions? |

It's nice and soothing image. My suggestion is to crop the water part a bit so as to balance the composition between sky, water as use the shore line as a median. |

Glen, my first comment to this image is WOOUW! I don't know if there is any better spot to take this picture. To me it's just perfect angle for the composition.
You mentioned ... I didn't do much post production apart from using the sliders in Adobe Camera Raw ...
Indeed, this was really apparent to me. If I were to do post processing (to this image) I would definitely increase it's dynamic range. Likely, with HDR in tone mapping from a single image for more punch and highlight some areas for more dramatic and dimensional.
However, I am still struggling with others opinions who prefer to have minimum adjustment during post production. Some said as natural as possible.
Any comments from others? |

Hi Charles. I am quiet familiar with this Kearny corner in San Francisco. I love the black and white version as edited by Judy. But, I would maintain the whole scene in the frame to include the guy on the phone sitting oh his big motor cycle. This is a unique scenes of Down Town San Francisco.
My daughter used to live in Dublin not far away from Barge station. I enjoyed going by Barge to town for street photography. Now, she moved and I missed my San Francisco. |

Hi Pierre. Like you, I like bracket shooting - hand held. In order to prevent camera shake you smartly set the speed to 1/8000, 1/4000, 1/2000, 1/1000 and 1/500. I have not seen any ghosting issues in this image.
You have successfully broadened the dynamic range by using HDR, you did not over do it. Job well done. |

Hi Lamar, I like the composition. It's simple and balance. You have chosen f/22 for sharp foreground, middle ground and back ground. You have successfully applying Graduated ND filter for more distinct sky.
I am just imagining if it is worth to apply focus stack for sharper foreground, middle ground and background. We could always impose slow speed for foreground to make it more dynamics. |

Hi Pierre, so sorry for this late response as I have been away for a trip in Japan. Thanks for your comment, actually the photo was taken in the afternoon around 15:00. During post processing, I purposely reduced the exposure a bit and re-lite the lamp posts for a misty mood. |
